Disney Land

I've been told by a relative that going to Disney Land is a fundamental human right for children. I was also told that if I don't take my child(ren) to a Disney Land, this same relative will take them instead.

I've never been and have absolutely no desire to go or to get my child (another on the way) interested in Disney Land. I just think it's chavtastic, nasty, naff, culturally barren and would rather go to Legoland any day.

Am I a total snob, no fun and Disney Land is now where all children go?

Disneyland/Disneyworld is great fun. I didn't expetc to enjoy myself so much! Was way more entertaining that our trip to legoland I have to say.

But no, it is not compulsary and your children will come to no harm if they never go.

bit much to say it's a human right for children but I have been and would love to take my kids there just for the sheet OTT, fun fun fun in the sun, small world after all, Tiggertyboo hell of it. But I'm skint and we shall go camping instead!

We went to Euro Disney with grandparents and had fantastic time. Children had never flown before etc. We all loved the rides, the hotel, (and the cleanness and lack of junk food/chewing gum/ fizzy drinks). It was brilliant.

If you don't want to go, let the relative. I am sure they'll all have a fantastic time.

I never went as a child I am ok(ish) and not mentally scarred by years of scarborough (although I should be).
We took the kids a couple of years ago and it is not just all about the rides there is so much to see and do and it totally was beyond my expectations. They will not suffer if they dont go but if it is within your means try it you might have a lovely suprise and if you dont like it dont go back!

Will your relative take my three ( 7,5,4?)along with your two?
COMPLETELY agree with you

Skribble · 13/11/2006 23:15

I didn't think I would but I love it, but it is not compulsory or a essential of childhood in the slightest.

I don't Legoland being any different from disney TBH, same as flamingoland and anyother themepark.

Perhaps you are a snab , but relative is insane to think it is a human right. Running through the woods, paddling on a beach, climbing tree, swinging on a swing maybe .

We have been to Disneyland despite believing much the same as you - I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it despite gritting my teeth and expecting to hate it. It does require a certain amount of suspension of critical faculties and you have to guard against the temptation to buy Mickey Mouse ears and unflattering tshirts which sneaks up on you when you least expect it - but it really IS a fun thing to do with your kids.
I don't think it is anybody's 'right' to go, but if you can afford it and the children want to do it, I would do it myself rather than let an interfering old bat of a relative have the fun.
