do specific grounds for divorce change anything?

An old friend of mine who I've not seen for years is getting divorced. He is giving her hell and fighting her for every penny, taking her old photos out of spite, etc. Also acting like the injured party. I happen to know from other mutual friends that he had an affair with a good friend of hers well before divorce was on the cards. This knowledge would potentially devastate her I think. Clearly not my business and they are getting divorced anyway, so I have kept uneasily schtum. But can I confirm that knowing about the affair would not make legal proceedings any easier for my friend? Do the grounds for divorce change anything? TIA

No. She needs a good solicitor and to hold her nerve. Divorce settlements do not take account of blame.

Is it true that adultery as grounds for divorce means that the adulterer has to pay legal costs for both sides?

Or is that a myth?

Thank you both. That's very helpful to know. I think finding it out now is the last thing she needs really (although it may make her more wary of the friend in future - that's another thread though). Thanks again.

And thanks Iggy. Anyone know about that...?

The person who files gets the bill...but you can agree to share it. Also both parties need legal advice which they pay for themselves.
