Has anyone used divorce-online?

(About) time to start the divorce process so would like to have some advice from wise MNers.

I wonder if most people use high street solicitors to sort out divorce or online legal help is also a sensible thing to do. The latter is appealing to me because it saves time and money. Any experience or advice welcomed! Thanks x

Might be worth a consultation with a solicitor to see how complicated they think it might be? As pp said will be more complicated if you have children, property possessions etc?

I used an online service but it was just us and our house, no children, and the split was amicable so we agreed on everything.

XH and I did as Stinkersmum did and just filled in the forms without any solicitor involvement. For the divorce part itself, as we were both in agreement about how the children should be looked after, it made complete sense.

I did go to see solicitors for free 30 minute sessions to discuss finances but due to our position of no owned house and minimal pensions, we didn't involve a solicitor for that either. Also we discussed it and neither of us is going to start any claim against the other at any point.

I would advise most people to use a solicitor for the financial parts even if you don't for the actual divorce.

Another thing to remember is that online prices are in addition to the court fees of approximately £400. Unless one of you has a very low income you will need to pay £400 at least whichever method you use.

NB my advice is based on England only - I know the process is different in Scotland and don't know about wales and Northern Ireland.

I used an online divorce service. It was extremely easy from start to finish. We didn't have any assets to split though so that may be something to consider if you decide to use them. They were always available to ask questions.

I am now thinking that I probably will deal with the divorce part by myself following the link and then use a solicitor to get the consent order done.
We are not really amicable but not about child or finance. Hopefully it will be straight forward enough.

Try mediation before a solicitor to thrash out details of the consent order. But absolutely you can get the divorce side sorted yourself whilst the consent order is sorted. Much cheaper.
