best thing to do about xmas pressies from gps

it's our first xmas with ds so would assume gps would mainly say: they've seen so & so would you like us to buy it for gs (that's what my mum has said)or is there anything you'd like us to buy for gs.
i am concerned that pil will create a fuss over this.
last year my mum & dad bought the same baby manual(it is for a man - like a car manual) as pil - my fil turned round & said well i didn't know i had to ask permission what to buy- i was pregnant at the time & snapped back - well i didn't know what they were buying(or something a long those lines)incidentally he bought me a baby cook book which really if my mum had bought the same he would of looked more stupid!
anyway what do you think is best? should i say my folks have bought this for gs & we're buying this?

Cant your DH deal with it? Why do we have to deal with BOTH sets of parents (I get the same thing "can you tell my mum...." )cue me throwing toys out of pram & telling him to do it himself (then it never gets done)

We just give them completely different ideas. sometimes specific toys or books sometimes more vague, or ask they call before they buy to chekc it is suitable and not duplicated. dh should sort them out though.

The first year my dd was 1 on xmas eve, grandparents bought her loads of stuff. My parents have 14 gc so spent £20 on each. I told IL's not to buy lots as it made my mum feel bad, and dd didn't need lots of stuff. They said that it was my mums problem if she felt bad, and that they had the money so they would spent it how they saw fit.
The 2nd year they called and asked if they could but her a bike, I said No, as she had nowhere to ride it, but if they wanted they could wait til the summer and get it then as we might have our house finished by then... they still bought her a bike! Landed up on xmas morning and said Santa left it at their house, it was bigger than anything we had bought dd
The last year, the year we had the row... they landed up here, a huge blak bag bulging with stuff... laptop, dress up clothes etc... everything bar one that we had bought her for xmas! Same laptop, same books, same outift etc..that I had told mil on phone we had already got for dd. I have NO Idea why they did that.. we had a huge row, she labelles us ungrateful I called her a psycho, she said I was odd, I said she was selfish etc.. a real slanging match... we barely speak now. So I have no advice really...how about emailing a list to them, and asking if they want to pick a few things off it and then you and your mum can get the rest?

I can honestly say that my GP has never brought me a pressie! Should I be upset by this???

Give them totally different ideas - clothes or books or a certain toy depending on their budget. I'd rather they just used their imagination TBh but they can't apparently - or are afraid of getting something wrong - and always ask me. I often just want to say I DON'T KNOW - THINK FOR YOURSELF!! Mind you I do also have to sort parents AND MILs present for DH so I get a bit narky about it all.

If I know someone is going to buy a present for the DSs (GPs, aunties etc) I tell then quite specifically what I would like them to buy, if necessary telling them where to buy it and how much it is.

I deal with the PILs as well as DH is completely rubbish at talking to them about things (anything) just in case it offends them.....

(last year MIL bought DS1 somehting completely inapproppriate present which is now languishing in the loft having breaking ion about the 3rd use!)

I asked dh to tell his mum that if she was getting dd a christmas gift to let me know 1st as I know what people are buying her and to avoid the issue on christmas morning when both sets turn up with the same gift..

DH never got around to it...BUT mil asked him what dd would like. When I saw her next I showed her a copy of the ELC catalogue and had circled gifts I would dd to have iykwim. MIL has choosen what she intends to get and my mum has done the same...I know what my parenst will get dd as I shop with them but didn't know about the il's..Hopefully this is problem solved..unless mil decides to get something else...

CHRISTMAS IS A NIGHTMARE.....!
