New life at 50?

Anyone out there started a new life aged 50? Did you meet a new partner, did it work out well or badly? How much money do you need to start again, realistically? Anyone made other big changes too? Is there a new life for us or is it better to stay with what's safe?

I moved back to London to a small flat which I love. I am now a few years above 50 but started dating at around 49 and had a couple of short term relationships but then met my wonderful partner who I see most weekends. I must admit I found dates (OL) quite easily and never worried about being 'older'.

Funnily enough my boyfriend has quite a few friends (late forties to early sixties) who are single and admit to being lonely but even though I encourage them to get out there and meet some women seem reluctant to do so - I think they have lost confidence rather than had bad experiences from what they say. If I were single I would definitely date three or four of them myself.

I think some older single women have had kids, run homes, worked and looked after selfish/cheating/entitled husbands and have a sense of adventure and a sense of let's have some fun before it's all over. I have found myself doing things I would never dream of previously and it's brilliant. If my relationship ended tomorrow I would be happy being single but know that if I wanted to find another man I could. Confidence is half the battle.

Blue, I booked the holiday when I was a bit demented with grief after my marriage broke up which is one of the reason I chose such a wrong holiday for me. I couldn't believe Id gotten it so wrong but once I did realise I decided to still go ahead with the trip. I think I must have confused websites whilst looking at google through the bottom of a glass and I decided to just bite the bullet and go because I wouldnt get any money back and it cost a fortune. Then when I got there I saw it was as hardcore as I suspected it might be - I decided to stay to push myself. God it was grim. Beautiful surroundings, rooms etc but grim.

I did learn a lot from it though. Grin

I've had a different experience of the OL dating scene past 50 - very few responses to my messages, and few messages that led to nothing. I think women outnumber men looking about 2:1, and many 50 - 55 year old men have their eyes on a 35-40 year old woman, so the odds are pretty long for us if we don't fancy a guy 10-15 years older than us. I'm filling up my life as a singleton now, it's easier.

I left at 50. I needed about £2000 to set up home. I have a lovely DP and life is rosy x Go for it!
