Has anyone done a diy divorce? & how easy is it ?

I did - it was completed within 3 months from divorce petition to decree absolute, and was a lot easier than I expected. I should say, however, that my husband and I had already separated our finances completely, lived in separate homes, and had no children. I believe that if children are involved then there is some requirement to ensure that they are adequately cared for etc., so that would make things more difficult I think?

In short, if you have no children and the financial side of things has been sorted amicably, then a DIY divorce is easy peasy. Costs £410.

Hi there...a friend has just done a diy divorce and it was very straightforward...they had been separated for more than 2 years, no shared assets, no kids and he didn't contest it...she just wanted it over so a clean break and no finances to sort. She filled in forms herself and it only cost court fee of £410. It will depend on your circumstances but if you are both in agreement and have talked about finances etc it should be relatively straightforward. Always best to have some legal advice first though...try a free half hour with a solicitor just to check it's the best way to proceed. Good luck!

I've done a couple (not for myself!) to help out some people at work. In fact, I've done four now I think. As pp said, no children and simple finances then it's easy peasy and there are lots of resources online as some wording on the forms seems complicated.

If there's money or dependent children involved, be very careful as these need watertight legal contracts.

I did a diy divorce. I can apply for the decree absolute in a couple of weeks, so it took 4 months overall.

There was property involved but I agreed not to pursue any of his assets so that made it more straight forward. We were both in agreement as well. As pps have said, there are lots of guides as to wording online.

We have DC but the requirement to prove that the care of the children has been arranged was removed last year I believe.
