Should I worry?

Went out last weekend, both had a fair bit to drink. Came home and dh accidentally smashed a glass meaning drink went all over. Couldn't get it off the wall which is already a mess from dh kicking it in temper over a year ago. This annoyed me so I had a go about why he hadn't sorted it out yet.

Dh got more annoyed, went out the room and slammed the door. I followed him and he was shouting and squared up to me. I decided to go to bed so left him to it. All apologies the following day.

He is the loveliest person and had been incredibly supportive to me (been together 15 years). Part from the odd kicking of stuff and pushing me off a chair years ago there have been no issues. However this latest has really upset me for some reason and I have been quite tearful since it happened. Not sure what I'm asking really, just wanted some objective views on the situation.

How often is this 'odd kicking of stuff' ?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 13/02/2015 23:44

Sounds like the pair of you should avoid alcohol for a while.

he was shouting and squared up to me

Has this happened before? Did you feel physically threatened?

AmantesSuntAmentes · 13/02/2015 23:49

You instigated the row, then followed him when he tried to disengage by walking away?

The previous damage to the wall is maybe concerning but it doesn't sound as though he did a great deal wrong last night. Really, if someone tries to disengage from an argument, I think they should be allowed to, without being followed.

I'm not saying him 'squaring up' to you is a good thing but it sounds like he was trying to escape an argument which you had started and maybe should have been allowed to?

I agree we aren't good when too much drink is involved - these days it's only once a fortnight or so that we go out. We've both acknowledged the alcohol factor but now and again one or both of us can have a bit too much. I'm heartened that I shouldn't be alarmed by DH's actions. I know I am to blame too -it aggravates me when doors are slammed and things kicked.
