Arranged to meet but had no plans for what to do. Went off on a random exploration of a place we'd never been before. Ended up running up and down hills in the snow and making snow angels. Hot pub dinner after. Wicked fun.

aglassofmandms · 13/02/2015 16:35

Mine was crazy golf.

jesy · 13/02/2015 16:46

W net to Bristolzoo, it rained most of day we had home made buttyss , kissed in the nocturnal bit of zoo.
Stopped off in local pub on way home

Still miss him lol

Pastmyduedate0208 · 13/02/2015 16:48

I was seeing a guy who was in a moderately known band. I got to look hot at gigs and go to after parties.
He was a rubbish partner tho totally narcissistic and critical/selfish.

I always enjoy dates that are simple like a walk by a river (on the way to the pub!) or a rooftop location.

It's the company you are in most of all.

Pandora37 · 13/02/2015 17:20

Mine was with an old friend I met up for lunch. So it wasn't actually a date but I still made en effort to look nice. All we did was go to a pub and then went for a walk but we just clicked straight away, and he really made me laugh. I was only planning for it to be a quick lunch but we ended up spending the whole afternoon together.

MiniTheMinx · 13/02/2015 20:58

Flight to Belgium on a private jet, lunch in Ostend hotel belonging to friends, and finished up having fish and chips on the sea front in Southend. Of course every other date since has been a bit of a let down!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 13/02/2015 21:00

Just a regular Saturday, then Mini? Grin

ExitStageLeft · 13/02/2015 21:04

Greyhound track! Seriously!

MiniTheMinx · 13/02/2015 21:05

Grin unfortunately not! Great date, lasted four years but it wasn't to be. Now the worst date was spent in a seriously shabby boozer playing pool and 16 years later...

WestEast · 13/02/2015 21:08

He took me to a local park, it's massive and has a lake in the middle which we walked round, had a pot of tea (we're both very Yorkshire) and shared a kit kat. I'd not been in the city very long, about four weeks and he wanted to show me slime where beautiful in his home town :) We finished it up with a pint and a snog. It was marvellous.

WestEast · 13/02/2015 21:09

Slime?! Show me.

WildGeese · 13/02/2015 21:56

I was travelling on my own in Thailand. Walking along the beach one evening I got chatting to this American guy who was throwing a stick for some puppies. It was one of those instant connections - we sat on the beach watching the sunset and just talked and talked until it was dark. Then we went and got some dinner together and at one point he touched my hand and my whole body tingled. He said he was heading over to the next town that evening for a local festival (more like a village fete type thing). I rode on the back of his moped with my arms round his waist and we spent the evening dancing to cheesy Thai pop music with people of all ages. I remember this ancient guy with no teeth grinning from ear to ear at us and talking away in Thai at us with lots of sign language about what a great couple we were, and us just grinning back and holding hands and grinning more. When we got back to the beach we went skinny dipping in the moonlight surrounded by phosphorescence.

Honestly. It sounds so unbelievably cheesy. Puppies FFS.

I ended up changing my flight home and spent 4 weeks travelling round Thailand and Nepal with him. Smitten. Then a few months later he came over to visit me in England, and that was it, the spell was broken. Lovely guy, but really we had nothing in common. Still the best first date of my life though Grin

MiniTheMinx · 13/02/2015 21:59

oh wow Geese that all sounds so romantic

MummyBeerest · 13/02/2015 22:05

Geese that is a GREAT first date!

Picnic in an apple orchard in the summer. One of our first dates. I knew I wanted to marry him them.

DontKillMyVibe · 13/02/2015 22:06

Had goosebumps reading that Geese. Was hoping to get to the end for you to say you were now happily married and still merrily throwing sticks for puppies Grin

FlourishingMrs · 13/02/2015 22:07

He took me to a magic bar for per dinner drinks, the dinner and cocktails bar, instead of cocktails we snogged like freshers for the whole night, 4 years and still going strong

WildGeese · 14/02/2015 00:40

I know - so disappointing! I do still grin when I think of that night. And the look on my mum's face when he called her 'ma'am' Grin

But a picnic in an apple orchard with my future husband sounds perfect to me.

WildGeese · 14/02/2015 00:42

... by which I mean, I'm jealous of your date MummyBeerest. No future husband on the horizon round here Sad

Greta28 · 14/02/2015 05:00

WildGeese I loved reading that. Even screenshot that so I have that story :) how beautiful and romantic

I don't have any nice stories about first dates, unfortunately:(

ToastedOrFresh · 14/02/2015 05:12

We met in London. A few weeks later he took me to Paris for a date. Wonderful.

We talked seriously about ourselves and aspirations for the future while the Prince song, 'You sexy mf' played on the radio which I switched off so it would not remind me of the weekend. To late !

I remember it was a great date and he proposed a few weeks later and I accepted.

Onsera3 · 14/02/2015 05:22

I've had some flashy dates but I think my first date with DH was the best because he was so lovely.

Drink in a bar with a great view, dinner in a nice restaurant and then a kiss by the water.

What sealed the deal was that, while we were one tube stop from his house, he took the two trains with me to get home and walked with me from the station to my door to say goodnight.

He proposed at the spot of our first kiss two years later.

MoustacheofRonSwanson · 14/02/2015 06:01

Two really...

First one was in 2001, met at Tate Modern late morning, couple of hours spent there, especially the Rothko Room, then lunch in in Bermondsey, drinks in Soho, afternoon tea and cake at Liberty of London, then drinks in Hoxton and finally a club in Dalston. Only thing that was planned was gallery vist, rest just flowed. Relationship was rubbish though!

Second one was a third planned date but not the actual third date. After our second date, the guy told me that as I had mentioned that I enjoyed theatre he hoped I wouldn't mind if he took the liberty of booking tickets for a production a couple of months hence, as it was the first thing on in my home town he thought would be to my taste (i.e. a play not a musical). It was a really lovely way of letting me know he planned to be around for a while, whilst giving me an out if I didn't feel the same way. I found it very reassurring. Our actual third date was great too- art gallery, dinner, comedy club. By the time the theatre came round we were well established, but it was brilliant too. He's DH now. (Our first date was another one of those that went from "let's go for a drink at lunchtime" to cinema, dinner, coffee as well).

So I think often the best first dates are ones that become a spontaneous whole day. But a very planned date a wee bit later is great way of showing you;re serious without having to say it in so many words.

MushroomSoup · 14/02/2015 12:01

My date drove me to a seaside town to get pizza from 'the best pizza place in the world' and we ended up (fully clothed) in the sea. He had a towel, a pair of his jeans and a warm jumper for me in the boot in his car!

Paperblank · 14/02/2015 14:52

Mine was with my DP. Cheesy I know but he came up to see me (friends for a long while beforehand) and I took him to a fab pub for lunch and we left when they threw us out Grin

My favourite memory is of us sat outside in the weak winter sun, with a couple of brandies just chatting. He put his arm round me and that was the turning point for me. His was about ten minutes later when we had our first kiss.

I am marrying him later this year. Thank god for brandy!!

PollyIndia · 14/02/2015 15:04

Bumped into an ex in Thailand, went for dinner, skinny dipped, went to the drag show, zoomed around on his motorbike then had loads of sex in his room which opened out to the sea. Also produced 2 year old DS - i found out 2 months later when i was travelling in india. Shame he was such a twonk about that bit. The date itself was amazing though.
