Fell out with my brother

He's had work in general to be honest but I've worked hard to keep the peace. Stupid Facebook argument where he made a comment, I countered it and he told me to get a grip and then to fuck off. I defriended him which now feels childish of me but I am upset. Also feel silly as I usually ignore his status updates because they are usually inflammatory in some way. I hate fighting with people and am not sure what to do now, there is a family party on Sunday.

Facebook frolics eh? How old are you?

plotmissinginaction · 02/12/2014 19:47

Old enough to know better, I usually ignore him on there, no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to respond.

Unless it was really serious I would just forget about it and behave normally on Sunday and if he dies too then he has also forgotten about it and there's nothing to stress about

grumpyoldgitagain · 02/12/2014 20:08

Does

Quitelikely · 02/12/2014 20:14

So he made a comment to all his FB friends and you countered it with something personal?

Heyho111 · 02/12/2014 20:26

If he writes something about you or your family on FB then private message him asking him to remove it. If he writes a status that is just opinionated etc just ignore it.
Pretend it hasn't happened at the family do. If he's funny with you ignore his behaviour and just be your normal happy self. It's hard to be horrid to someone who doesn't respond back nastily. He'll come round. And put it down to experience.

plotmissinginaction · 02/12/2014 20:40

It was just opinion stuff that I found upsetting so I disagreed with it. Not with something personal no. I absolutely should have ignored it, I usually do, so I feel very foolish but also a bit hurt at being told to fuck off. I've been a good support to him over the years, I don't think I deserved it. I'll just pretend nothing happened, our family is very good at that.

The problem with Facebook is you only see the written word not the context it was meant in

Depending who said it I could be really offended by a text saying fuck off or not bothered at all if I thought I knew it was intended in jest and not seriously

plotmissinginaction · 02/12/2014 22:44

I just sent a message saying sorry although I'm not sure he will see it. I won't get an apology but I'd rather try and keep the peace. He's behaved pretty badly over the years but I've never fallen out with him before, even when others have. I'll just have to see what he does I suppose, it's up to him. I might leave Facebook, as you say it's hard to read people there.
