How to support dp - he just sent a text about leaving his job. He can't !

Dp works a manager in a sales/money based job. He helped develop company from scratch.

He is the main bread winner, I only go to work one day a week just to keep my hand in as we decided I would be a SAHM. We don't receive any benefits as he earns too much. Not enough for us to be rolling in cash but enough to see us through.

He has just sent a message saying he is considering leaving they are putting too much pressure on him, it's making him Ill. I sent one back saying " ok let's chat tonight, take a deep breath and do what you can do today"

He bottles things up so hasn't discussed anything like this before. He is not probe to flippant remarks either. I know he is under stress with his family business that he does the most in.

I'm in a bit of a panic because for him too mention this - something must happening in work for a while. Christmas is around the corner, bills need paying. I do not mind going full time in work but there isn't the hours.

What can I say to be supportive with out coming out in hives and panic which I am now (no hives)

Thank you can it's not Christmas so much it's the mortgage and bills. He assured me last night he wasn't going to just walk out immediately if it come to that.

He can walk if he needs to we just need to get a plan together first.

Oh goodness, what a pile of shit! Sounds like his boss is completely taking him for granted, and your DH should probably demand some of those so-far empty promises to be realised if boss wants him to stay.

In the meantime, you and your DH should be looking to get him out of there, as it's highly unlikely that bossman will want to cough up now, since he hasn't yet (and clearly has no moral compass, and not much decency). BUT - and this is important - he should keep that mostly quiet after his meeting with the boss, otherwise his last weeks/months at the place will be unbearable.

But definitely work towards him leaving - it sounds dreadful. :(

That is so shit for your DP, Anotherchapter. They obviously don't value him properly and it's time for him to start holding them to account.

On the other hand, they've promoted people over him but apparently can't run the business without him - it pretty much needs to be one or the other in my view. If they don't intend to recognise his contribution properly it's time for him to move on.

That's sounds all very positive. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
