Hello,
after 6 years with my husband (2 years married) I am faced with having to leave. I won't bore you with the story. Looking for some advice on what can I do?
We have a 9 month old daughter and rent an apartment on his name. I have registration with the council to get a house, but that is again on his name. He convinced me to apply for everything in his name, because he is British and I'm not, so there maybe some problems. He is currently out of work and claims Jobseekers allowance and I just found a part time job which starts in about a week. But problem is even when I start work it won't pay enough for me to move out and support both me and our daughter.

I'm so scared not sure what to do.

Well, for a start you'll be able to claim tax credits & housing benefit to support you and your daughter. So financially you might be OK. Maybe go and see Citizens advice for some info, and perhaps the council registration can be changed to your name. Although waiting lists are usually very long so it's unlikely that will be an immediate solution.

Would he be willing to move out of the flat and you take over the tenancy agreement. You should be named on it anyway. If you're not, talk to the LL.

If you have to move out yourself, then talk to the housing support officer at the local council. They may be able to help.

Good luck :)

You need to get some advice as obviously your story is complex. Contact CAB and arrange an appointment to discuss your rights, both to housing and financial support. I hope things work out for you.

Second CAB asap. They will help immensely. Do you have residency visa? If you do, you are entitled to benefits, the whole lot. You won't be on the street. But you have to start making some calls and see where you stand. Not knowing is the worst part.

What country are you originally from?

There may be a few issues with benefits etc, but do contact CAB as already suggested. www.citizensadvice.org.uk

Thanks everyone, will make sure I contact CAB and get to know what rights I have. I am originally from Bulgaria, but have been living here for few years now.
