Lonely while husband working shifts

My husband works shifts and I am home alone in the evenings with a 10 year old (until she goes to bed) and a rabbit for company. I am increasingly lonely and without much in the way of social options. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do?

Oh poor you.
My DH works away a lot and I am home with the kids. Now they are older they are good company. My bunny is good company too !
Get a babysitter in and go out yourself.
Or invite some for friends round for a Girls Night in.
Or you could host a book group or film club at your place.
Does that help ?

Read?
TV?
Call a friend?
Browse forums you like on MN?
Knit?
Sew?
Write a book?

I was in the same position.

I then took up various hobbies sewing, card making, cake decorating, creative writing and of course MN. I'm still alone but I notice less Smile

yes, watch tv, crochet or do crafts, read, phone a friend, go online.

I like it as I watch what I want on tv

I was the same. DP works lates and I work earlies so I get home around 1pm and I'm alone for 8+ hours a day. I read, watch series or films on Netflix, browse the internet, play video games and nap!

I have spent the last 28 year's with my DH doing shift work. It was very lonely in the early years before children. Was better when they came along. You just get used to it I guess.

I know exactly how you must feel.. My oh works shifts and any day he works he lives with his mum (who lives where he works - I'm about a 40min drive away)
In one way it prevents arguments /tension waking one another up.. I work a day job, but in same way can leave me quite lonely. Mon-fri I go the gym most nights so find that fills my evenings and is a bit of social. I bought a small dog three years ago and she's wonderful company and means I sleep better at night... Other times I find myself just watching tv, walking dog, faffing around the house, reading, playing xbox etc. I have thought about taking up an evening class.. But not done yet.
Biggest problem I find. Is its easy to get set in your ways, used to own bed, doing own thing etc. sometimes I hate the arrangement and get annoyed he won't move in (he used to live with me) and embarrassed that he 40 and still living at home... other times I accept that if it works for us it's not usual for man to want live with his mum rather than fiancé but it works for us....

We find that it works for us because it's a few days earlies, a few days lates, a few days nights, so as long as I know when he's doing what, I know when I've got control of the remote.

I have to be a little understanding that between certain shift combos, he's a tad zombificated Grin

In terms of being lonely, it's not really a thing for me, as I'm quite introverted. The company of our rescue cat is all I need. She just sits in my vicinity while I fart about on Faceache and here.

I'd been very used to living on my own for quite some time, and have struggled with previous relationships when I was in the same living space as my partner all the time at the time. I like my space, as does he, but we've always been quite self sufficient people.

Not sure this helps, but there are some positives to the work setup Thanks
