What to expect from counselling?

Dh and I are starting counselling next week for some long standing issues. He does not think we need it but I do. I don't know what to expect rom the sessions. I just know that it can only be a positive thing in the long term if we want to get our marriage back on track. Can someone share their experiences?

I ve had one on one counselling, not couples counselling.

I would say that to expect to go to places were you have really avoided emotionally.

There will be tears and tissues.

Yes I'm very nervous about that Myhusband. However I feel relieved that I have made the decision to start down this route. When things are good with DH it's fine but we don't communicate well when things are not so good.

I would be pessimistic if either of you were approaching counselling in the spirit of thinking it's a waste of time. Counselling can only facilitate discussion and encourage openness. The couple are responsible for the answers. If the participants are not engaged and prepared to change, it's going to be a disappointing experience.
