Dh told me he is leaving me because I won't spend another fortnight with his family.

It's been an issue for many years. Every year, twice a year, I'm expected to spend two weeks living with the in laws (not English, not in UK). Despite it being pretty unpleasant, miserable mil, unwelcome atmosphere & expectation that I clear up after everyone & generally go from housework in my own house, to doing housework in theirs.
I have an elderly parent is who very dependent at the moment & for the immediate future. I told dh I would not be going again on the second trip if this year. He has screamed & shouted, rang his family & told them I'm unbearable & that he is moving back home. I work full time, have a teenage dc & an elderly parent, I admit I'm always tired & don't socialise as much as I should. But I do care & just want to please everyone. I'm just so worn down by it all.

Is he 5 years old?

See a solicitor so you know how things sad legally.

Unfortuately I doubt he will follow through on his threat promise to leave you. No doubt your life would be far happier without a total knobber like this in it.

I wouldn't give him a choice to be honest, I would just take him at his word, pack him a bag and tell him to go and stay with mummy now and not come back.

Take some control back. Thanks

Thank you all for your replies. I'm very grateful. There is no issue with children, dc is practically an adult & not biologically his ( although dc is very close to him). I shall not beg or plead, as some of you have said - if he goes, that's that.
Was embarrassed when I heard him calling his family to announce his plans. Much as I don't really like them, he shouldn't be worrying them with his tantrums. I wouldn't dream of behaving like that.

Hope he bails. What a creep.

SolidGoldBrass · 08/09/2014 18:47

If you think he's going to leave and/or try to take the children, get some legal advice. If he's just going to run off crying to mummy and expect to be welcomed back, it might also be a good idea to get legal advice so you know where you stand.
It does sound liike life would be easier if yougot rid of him.

Congratulations op!

It sounds like the best possible thing that could happen for you, though I'm sure it doesn't feel like it at the moment.

Cleaning someone else's house? Feck that, I barely clean my own. (thanks dp for picking up the slack ha)

You have been a slave. Slaves do as they are told and don't answer back and don't have the right to say " no" to their masters.

You have broken free and are no longer a slave . Good for you. Your life , once he has pissed off to mummy , is going to be so much better. Will he be doing mummy's housework for her do you think ?

myroomisatip · 12/09/2014 16:52

I agree with everyone else and especially IngridCold. When I saw the title of your thread I thought 'Yay a result!', I know that was wrong but I think I got the gist of your problem immediately Grin

I am sure that you will feel so much better when he goes. Go and pack his bags for him! Flowers

Wow! Well done OP. You have stood up for yourself, and got shot of this man-child, in one fell swoop. Huzzah!
