Anyone have any experience on counselling. I feel I need to speak to someone not face to face but via telephone.

Is there a particular reason for not being face to face? I'm sure, if you expressed your wishes to a counsellor, they would agree to start the sessions in a way that made you feel comfortable.

Huge fan of counselling here, it saved my life. I am sure that its more effective face to face but i guess they may agree as cog suggested, is there a reason for telephone only?

I'm a counsellor. My first question (more from a layperson perspective; I wouldn't ask this as a counsellor) would be why not face to face?

I am currently having counselling. It has been a lifesaver. I too, wonder why you couldn't meet face to face? This was crucial to me in building a trust with my counsellor, by doing that I have disclosed far more than I intended to which will be for the good long term. I was nervous about counselling but feel that sometimes you have to take the plunge and face it head on, especially if issues are troubling you enough to need or want to see a counsellor in the first place. I also want to have counselling but am not sure how to find someone who will be good, how to judge if mean.

Another fan of counselling, just started my tenth course and about to go on a waiting list for the eleventh. (lots of issues, I'm not timewasting).

I've had telephone counselling (through Teachers' Support, work related stress) and it was brilliant.

Counselling has kept me off medication (mostly) and helped me sort out a lot of issues, be happier. I'm a work in progress, and I'm worth the effort.

Go to the GP, ask. Try. If it doesn't work, ask again, try another.
Good luck.
