What is your fantasy home like?

Mine is messy, a bit untidy but not dirty. It has a few toys around. There are cups from where friends have been round for tea that are not yet washed and put away.

There are pictures hung on the wall, not all at right angles but wherever I hammered a nail in.

All the school stuff is by the front door, ready for the morning.

There are cards up, and photos and pictures the DC have drawn, stuff pinned to the walls and fridge and doors.

The garden is full of flowers instead of bare, the payoff is a few weeds but it is worth it.

People eat biscuits in my home and don't worry about dropping crumbs.

Family and friends feel comfortable in our house.

DH has OCD and is now going for counselling so I may be on the way to achieving my dream home, but it seems so far away.

Does anyone else fantasise about what 'home' is to them?

A house with Lots of cupboards and shelves to actually be able to put stuff away instead of having no where and it ends up on a bench or in the corner O.o

tisrainingagain · 22/08/2014 08:10

My fantasy home has an open plan kitchen / living area which opens straight onto the garden. It is tidyish and clean, airy and light. It is near a beach but also in a cosmopolitan, multi-cultural community. Best of all my name is on the deeds (unlike now where h refuses to add my name to the deeds of the house we live in despite us having three dc and being together for ages Angry).

I hope your husband's counselling goes well cowardly.

tisrainingagain · 22/08/2014 08:14

Forgot to add, fantasy home also has a utility room with enough space to hang washing in it and/or a dryer so we never have to look at drying washing.

tisrainingagain · 22/08/2014 08:16

Yes (sorry on a roll) and lots of friends coming and going as well as adult friends coming round for dinner.

Nocturne123 · 22/08/2014 08:24

Cowardly you've pretty much described my dream home too ! I've recently moved so am trying to make that happen .

Dream home would also have views of the Irish Sea so I could watch all the stormy weather from a cosy room with a fire.

Imbroglio · 22/08/2014 09:04

My fantasy home looks fab after I've done the housework, so I feel motivated to do it and rewarded when its done.

HippyPottyMouth · 22/08/2014 09:18

My house with just me and DD in it.

Joysmum · 22/08/2014 10:17

My fantasy house isn't really about the house, it's about the location and to have some land.

We'd like to be just outside a small town in the middle of countryside.

We'd like a river running through and at least 5 acres of grazing, although the more the better, an a large range of outbuildings. I'd like to have a school and well draining stable yard.

The house would be no bigger than we have now. I don't want to spend time and money on something I wouldn't appreciate.

phonebox · 22/08/2014 10:20

There would be a laundry chute leading down to the laundry room!

Oh God I would love a laundry room. And it has lovely big French windows leading to the lower garden, where I can peg things out if the weather is good enough.

There would be a tree swing and a hammock in that garden too.

kaykayblue · 22/08/2014 10:30

Mine would require a pretty epic lottery win...

My dream house would be on the outskirts of the capital - still on the public transport lines, but at the terminus. A two/three storey flat, with a big kitchen, an open plan sitting room/dining room, all wooden floors, a huge balcony on the top floor which is basically a roof garden, four bedrooms....

WitchWay · 22/08/2014 10:34

Mine is smallish & cosy with no huge accumulations of hoarded clutter. Normal amounts of temporary clutter would be fine.

Pretty much the opposite to what I have now Sad

Girlwithnotattoos · 22/08/2014 10:39

All I can visualise about my dream home is that it has 2 kitchens. A big lovely homely tidy one for me and another one far away for DH to 'cook' in. That way his messy creations and rubbish tidying up can stay well away from me Grin

CogitoErgoSometimes · 22/08/2014 10:39

Having just spent a small fortune renovating, refurbishing and expanding Cog Mansions I still wouldn't describe it as a fantasy home, but it certainly looks better than it has in years. If it could be lifted by helicopter wholesale and deposited somewhere with panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dales, that would be terrific.

ChickOnaMission · 22/08/2014 10:49

a yoga room - with a lovely big window overlooking the garden which has herbs and fruit and vegetables all tended by a gorgeous bare chested gardener!

Lovely shiny kitchen with all the mod cons

UNDERFLOOR HEATING!!!!

big comfy sofas

music in every room via hidden blutooth speakers connected to spotify

no tv

massive playroom (at opposite end of the house to the yoga room)

lots of big windows and lovely curtains, oh I'm drooling over curtains on ebay now and can afford none of the ones I like... :-(

ovaryhill · 22/08/2014 10:57

Clean

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 22/08/2014 11:32

I want the house from Grandpa in my pocket but without the Kath Kidson stuff. Wood floors free of dust bunnies and sand. Pale/white wood units. Pastel colour soft furnishings free of snot and quaver stains. Suitable storage for well trained children to put thing out of sight or a big room that they can fuck up(but not Lego coz it makes my brain itch). Big garden without fox shit. Big kitchen.
Polar opposite to my house now.

phonebox · 22/08/2014 12:33

That house is beautiful. Wow!

myfriendflickadee · 22/08/2014 13:46

Just happy and loving.

We have a big house overlooking the sea, a swimming pool, laundry room, a playroom filled with toys, a tree house, a gym, every gadget you could ever want, fast cars, beautiful art on the walls, rooms full of well read books, a herb garden and jasmine climbing up the walls. We have a home in the centre of the city, bijou but perfect, with a garden and a terrace. Pretty much everything on everybody's wish lists.

Yet our home is miserable. I would swap the "stuff" for a loving home any day.

myfriendflickadee · 22/08/2014 13:47

Sorry... I just brought a downer to a light hearted thread. Not having a good day...

Mrwillywonkasbitch · 22/08/2014 14:28

Humblepie I was just going to say a hobbit house myself. All cosy

Twinklestein · 22/08/2014 14:35

So sad Flick Sad

thisisnow · 22/08/2014 14:38

Flickadee can I come and live with you? I promise to bring lots of fun and laughter!

myfriendflickadee · 22/08/2014 15:41

Sorry, I already have a cocklodger, thisisnow.

Although I'm making steps to "swap the stuff for a happy home" so he may have room for a real lodger! I wouldn't want him for a landlord though.

It just made me tear up when I read the thread and thought I have all those things and they are worthless when it comes down to it.

Anyway, I'm not going to say any more as I'm scared I've already said too much and someone might recognise me and he'll find out. Plus I'm hijacking the thread with my misery.

I feel a lot better now I've channelled my inner bitch and called him names on here.

Googlechrome · 22/08/2014 15:54

I'd like our home, but done up to a much higher spec.

The kitchen would be glossy and full of amazing storage (instead of a low-end Howdens kitchen with clutter everywhere)

The hallways would be pristine, with lovely art on the walls and parquet floors. No fingerprints on walls or dirty stair carpet.

Our bedroom would be a boudoir, with huge bed and canopy and no piles of laundry or bits of DH's work crap hanging around in piles.

Wouldnt change where I live, though (in terms of area/street).
