DNA Test Results

My Daughters ex requested a DNA test as he was in dispute that he was the father of her son. She was requested to attend her GP where the tests were taken.

Her ex is now saying that he has had a letter saying that the boy is not his. Now ..... being the kind of person he is this could just be hogwash but then it could also be true (long messy story) !!

My question is, as he requested the DNA test is he the only one that will receive results. My daughter has phoned the Dr and obviously they can't tell her anything over the phone but they have also said the results are only sent to the application parent, which was him Surely this can't be true. Does anyone know???

She could just be factual and ask him to show her the results so everyone can get on with their lives.

It probably is true.

It seems odd if she had tests done that she cannot receive the results of the test.

Nomama · 05/08/2014 13:55

Yes, I agree. But if your GP confirmed it then it probably is the case. She could book an appt with the GP, you said they wouldn't say anything over the phone... if she makes an appt they aren't going to keep the results secret, if they know them... they may not!

"The results will be given to the person nominated on the Consent Form (or Sampler Statement), for whom everyone tested has given consent and other authorised persons where appropriate".

Should have gone via the Legal Test Service or ensured other names were included on the consent form

If he wants her to believe him, he's going to have to show her the test result or agree for another one top be done for her (paid for by her and therefore results to her), surely?

If he's an arsehole, this is a good result, right?

FrankSaysNo · 05/08/2014 14:00

By going to her GP DD must have consented to a swab ... surely DDs GP will get a set of the results? I am assuming the DD and child use the same GP therefore as a parent she has access to his records?

Why was this not explained at the time of the swab?

And did the EX himself get swabbed or send along a friend??

I agree DD should ask fora copy of the letter.

However these things arent always 100%. Mistakes get made. Anecdotally, an acquaintance had to have two tests on the same father, the first one gave an inconclusive set of results. The second one proved the baby was his. There are always other factors such as spoiled samples or mistakes in the lab.

....that said, if he is dodging maintenance then the truth will out in court

FreeSpirit89 · 05/08/2014 14:06

My DP had to do this with his two children, sadly one wasn't his. But they both got copy's of the result. It was done via a court order though

Standinginline · 05/08/2014 14:08

If I was proving to someone that I wasn't the parent to a child I wouldn't just let them take my word for it I would want to show them the proof. Make sure she sees the letter ,if he's hiding it then obviously he is the father.

Thanks everyone. I should have said the Paternity test was requested by the CSA as up until my daughter contacted them he was never in dispute.

I will get her to book an appt with the GP and ask them face to face. Someone also suggested to contact CSA as they must also have the results if he has.

It's just painful not knowing

@Clobbered There is nothing I would like more than for the results to be him not the father as yes he is a complete AHole lol
