Help!

I know there's a recipes section, but I think this is a relevant dilemma for Relationships!

I'm not the world's greatest cook. When I was married my ex did most of the cooking, and I don't enjoy it so I've never really learned. Dinner tends to be grilled lean meat and veggies, or really simple things like curries/bolognaise etc.

My BF of just over a year has made loads of meals for me...he cooks for us at least once a week. We don't live together. He's an amazing cook and just really enjoys it so I've just let him do it Confused. Problem is he's a bit of a foodie, so the thought of cooking for him fills me with terror. I've done it about twice in the 13 months we've been together.

Anyway, it's time I gave the poor guy a break. Does anybody have any simple recipes that look really impressive?

I am no foodie but I love salmon with Cajun spice. Serve with roasted veg and baby potatoes. I cook them in the oven bags (lakeland)

Mmm, salmon is always nice. That sounds like a lovely meal. Is Cajun spice a spice mix?

And what are these oven bags of which you speak?

What about steak, homemade wedges and salad. Really simple just get a good steak and time it on either side. Wedges are super easy, just chop a potato in wedge shapes (don't even need to peal) but on a baking tray raw with olive oil and cook for 40 mins till crispy. Season with pepper/thyme/rosemary/salt. You could even make a Greek salad just get a salad bag, some tomatoes/cucumber and if you like olives/feta get a mixed pot from deli and mix it in (also acts as salad dressing)

Cajun spice .. Just Schwartz or whatever, the little jars.

The oven bags are like these

Another idea would be tacos. Just fry mince, garlic, fresh tomatoes, onions and herbs and seve on taco shells with side salad and garlic bread

I heard people talking about nigella pasta dishes on here a lot too, so worth a look

Rib eye steak with dauphinois potatoes. Mmmm

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 02/08/2014 22:42

catz and quite see, I think steak sounds quite hard! Rare/medium rare etc...don't you need to know what you're doing? He's made steak for me before and it was lovely. He did go into quite alot of detail about how he cooked it Confused. I'm not sure I'd have the confidence to make that. But if you think a novice like me can do it, I'm all ears.

What are dauphinois potatoes? Sounds fancy Grin

You could try this:

These ideas are all great actually. I love the idea of a greek salad. He does like olives. Sounds quite sophisticated Grin

Tacos sound good too... like something even I couldn't mess up, but also a bit different and interesting.

Thanks, guys, please keep the ideas coming...I need a bit of a list so I don't have to keep posting every time I realise it's probably my turn to cook Grin.

Agree that salmon is a really simple but tasty meal, I just wrap in tin foil after adding small amount of lemon juice, salt and black pepper and a small knob of butter. It's as quick and easy as a ready meal. You can vary by using chilli flakes, white wine, bay leafs, fresh herbs.
Have with steamed veg,and new potatoes or cous cous (super easy - just add water and stir)
Wonderful that he loves cooking thoughSmile
