We are talking very early on. 3rd date early.

We have had the exclusive talk and are both feeling excited about getting to know each other.

Hes just started a new job and i kind of wanted to be nice and take him a small gift to say ' well done on your first week there' type thing.

I was just going to make a few cakes ( he likes cake)

Few girls at work said it was cute, one girl said it was lame and the boys ( they are maybe 20 years younger than my date) laughed.

so, lame? or nice gesture?

Way to a man's heart through his stomach.
Cake!

Home made cake is worth a hundred bottles of any kind of wine.

Steak... not cake.... Unless you've got the hots for Billy Bunter. :)

Its the 'home made' that counts. And cake's fine. A gift-wrapped steak doesn't have the same effect.

Caking cakes too much effort for date 3. Take him a bag of starburst (eat the red ones first)

Just did a straw poll of one husband sitting beside me. Homemade cake or a bottle of bubbly? He said Cake! If you make a cake, YOU made it. It is a nice personal gesture. I don't know any man who doesn't love cake. I

Homemade cake............... fabulous!! (And from a bloke POV, if you make em as replicas of your breasts he will love it!! ;-)

On our third date now H and I bought each other half a DVD! :o

We both love a particular film but it is very hard to get hold of (think £££ on Amazon) and we saw one in the window of a charity shop for £2. But we both wanted it! So we agreed that we would go halves and if we split up we would share custody, one month on and one month off :o

I think it depends what it is and how you do it. Like a couple of cupcakes iced as boobs "to remind you of me while you are at work" would be funny. A lovingly iced occasion cake, too much!

What did you do in the end?

I would have thought a cake is a good idea, but then I like the comments about it being too 'Mary Berry', even tho she may be great...I don't think I'd like to come across as her on a date...
