I'm not sure it was a troll, but the obvious disgust in a small amount of facial and boob hair (I guarantee I have more!) wrapped up in faux concern about "people making fun of her" made me want to puke.

Okay so maybe the chap was insensitive, but could his concern really have been about his GF? Just playing devils advocate bit?

Its not as if similar threads about appearance of one form or another don't turn up on MN on a regular basis.

I was reading that thread and was pondering on how it would have gone if genders were reversed:

Girlfriend: My BF has got extra hair in places where people don't normally have it and I'm concerned he's going to get flak. What can I do?

I'd put some money on getting a lot of answers like 'Pin him down and tweeze them, I do it to my DH all the time, it's fine and he looks better for it' and only a few saying 'leave the poor sod alone, you are shallow'.

I don't do this myself but am fairly sure I've seen comments of the former type before wrt stray hairs.

I do think there's a bit of a gender bias in responses here.

The posts here by women are usually more honest in that they clearly say that they don't like whatever aspect in their OHs.
They do not feign concern about what other people might say to their OHs.

But surely if he'd turned up just saying 'I wish she'd shave' then he'd get an even worse battering? It's not a very nice approach but I can sort of understand the perceived need for reticence.

The thing is, he was saying that she wasn't aware of the hair which is very unlikely. Everyone strokes their chin and neck area and, sooner or later, becomes aware of hairs, spots, dry skin and bumps in general.

She clearly didn't have a problem with it and he clearly did.

See, I'm not sure - I was oblivious of lots of my lumps/bumps until quite an advanced age!

I'm just not entirely convinced that it was all trolling and that he is necessarily a douchebag. He may well be, but I'm not sure.

I'll repeat my message, just in case he's still here: DO NOT TELL YOUR GIRLFRIEND SHE HAS ISSUES WITH BODY HAIR; IT WILL HURT HER MUCH WORSE COMING FROM YOU.
