Nervous about male friend coming round tonight

I invited a few people I used to work with around tonight for drinks and to watch football. I am fairly recently separated and trying to boost my social life. However, the two female friends can't make it but the male friend is coming by himself. He's divorced and single as far as I know. Now I'm wondering if it is going to seem like a date, and whether he will be expecting more than just a nice chat while while watching football?

You're single, he's single.... Get in the mix :)

Dirtybadger · 19/06/2014 13:27

Does he know you initially invited others? Tell him he's welcome to invite a couple of friends?

Twitterqueen · 19/06/2014 13:29

Are you being set up do you think?
More to the point - do you fancy him?! as liam says - rock 'n roll...

but if he really, really does want to watch the footie, wait until it's over before you jump him Wink

liam2014 · 19/06/2014 13:37

TwitterQueen makes another good point... No monkey business during the game.. A halftime bj is acceptable, on the condition you have the skills to finish the job in 15 minutes.. Otherwise, wait until after

(Joke btw) :)

He knows the others aren't coming and asked if it was OK for him to come anyway. My DC are with their father tonight and I've got nothing else planned so I said it was OK.

Do I fancy him? Well, he's not unattractive. I don't think I'd want a relationship with him but I wouldn't be averse to a bit of snogging...

Just drop it in conversation that you're not long divorced and it may be a long while before you're ready for another relationship.

He should get that signal and start the snogging...

ivykaty44 · 19/06/2014 13:51

GeT it on and stay safe ....

kaykayblue · 19/06/2014 13:52

Maybe you could watch the football outside? Maybe I am jut paranoid, but I wouldn't want to be alone in my home with a guy I barely knew.

QuiteSo · 19/06/2014 14:08

Kaykay, I do know him as we used to work together for several years. We didn't socialise much though as we were both married to other people.

OP - don't overthink this, jus go with the flow. You're both adults. And a FWB relationship can be great - you don't have to fall in love with him.

And regardless of anything else, it's much more fun to watch with someone else than it is on your own.

QuiteSo · 20/06/2014 17:29

If anyone's interested, an update on last night: no snogging, he was the perfect gentleman while we watched the football and had a nice chat. Gave me a big hug when he left but that was it. I felt both relieved and disappointed. Said we'd meet up again soon.

and disappointed

Interesting. I would follow up that second meeting.

WildBillfemale · 20/06/2014 18:31

Get more beer down him if you want a snog

QuiteSo · 20/06/2014 18:37

Well, I'll see how things go next time we meet up. But perhaps I have met that rare creature: an unattached, straight man who genuinely wants a platonic friendship? Or maybe he just doesn't fancy me ;)

More football watching I reckon...and next time make sure you get what you want... ;-)
