ok so me and Dh are in a difficult time money wise. hd got made redundant with no package and i can't work as i have a pg related illness (normal i would car on regardless but could loose the baby)
we have been refused house benefit and are waiting on re appeal in the mean time we need to day rent.
we asked to borrow 140 off mil to cover what was missing of the rent and was told
"don't worry about paying it back any time soon"
his was last Wednesday
yesterday and today hd has had calls from her asking for it back. saying she's had to take out her last tenner to by cigs.

i am so angry.... both her and fir are in paid work and only got paid last week.
they know our situation (very usual as both me and hd have or had good earning job but life has thrown us some shit)
also in the past we have lent (gave them as it was never paid back) alot of money over the years. as well as giving the car-less family lifts everywhere etc as you would its family!!
i basically feel very deeply hurt that a week after she told me not to worry as paying back any time soon she's blackmailing Dh to give the money back.
so i have sent Dh off with every penny i had in my bank account - canceling standing orders - to pay her back as i rather have a debt collector on my back then emotional family blackmail.

It's tough. We borrowed some money from a family member, we were going to get a loan but they said they had the money and would happily lend it.

It started off as "don't even thing about paying it back until you are back off Mat leave", but then the jokey "oh you've bought a new top? Was that with my money?" Followed by lots of laughing started.

Long story short we took out the loan we were going to take out originally and paid them back straight away. They said we shouldn't have and could have the money for as long as we wanted. But it wasn't working.

It was good of mil to lend you the money, it's quite common that the lender feels they should constantly remind the borrower in case they forget. It's not nice.

In future don't borrow money from them. I've learned my lesson.

I hope your money worries pass soon. Try not to let it get to you too much. There are many bad lenders out there.
