It's my first post here,im just after some advice.

Currently in the middle of a divorce after 20 years of marriage and 5 children. Will hopefully be moving out in a few weeks, and I need to collate any importent paperwork to take with me. I know I will need passports and birth certificates, but who else should I take with me?

Thanks

If you think there is going to be any problems over financial support for the children or assets such as the marital home then things like bank statements, pay-slips and similar can be useful

Thanks, finances are agreed and as it is very amicable I don't think that there would be any problems there. I found the details of my car (log book, and Insurance) but can't think of anything else important. A bit sad after so long together that there isn't more important documents!

Do you have your marriage certificate?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 14/05/2014 12:22

If it's all very amicable, even if you find you subsequently need something that you left behind, I'm sure you could get a copy or get it forwarded. It's really only people who are anticipating legal battles or uncooperative behaviour that need to leave with a filing cabinet.

Thanks. Marriage certificate is at solicitors. I know that I can come back and get stuff I need, was just making sure i got everything. He thinks that I won't be able to manage on my own, and will be running back to him every time I need something and I won't be!

That certainly sounds like a motivation to be well-organised... :)
