Divorce- free half an hour?

Hoping for some advice please. Found out 'd'h has been cheating. We have a 2 month old son, all joint finances and a house in my name. I think I will need to buy him out but don't want to give away more than I have to so was looking to see a solicitor for advice.

I've read on here that most solicitors offer a free half an hour but the 2 I've just called don't. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Keep phoning around, some definitely do. The solicitor I used was recommended by a friend. That firm did a £50 initial appt which was for 45mins but actually lasted an hour, still pretty good value and gave me a huge amount of peace of mind. Keep phoning, you'll find once that does the free consult (unless you live in a big city maybe).

Some have stopped offering because of cuts to legal aid OP. Citizens advice is very good and can point you in the direction of a good solicitor when you get the ball rolling.

He cannot force you to sell until your youngest is 18, he will have to wait for his share until then. Get on to CMO too OP, get a calculation for chile support.

Good luck OP, and sorry this has happened to you. Well done for taking control.

Citizen's advice is not allowed to give recommendations of solicitors they would point you in the direction of the law society website for you to find a list of all solicitors in your local area.

Thank you everyone. I haven't been able to find anywhere locally and as we have agreed basis for child care and finances will try and do it without

If you're aiming to do without a solicitor, please make sure you're getting everything you're entitled to from your ex, using the CAB for advice if necessary - I believe there's also a good section on here about this, though of course they can't give individual advice without knowing you

I realise solicitors will say this - they want your money after all!!! - but it's only too easy to get steamrollered and miss out on something important if you're not very careful. Since your OH has cheated already, he can hardly be expected to look out for your interests ...

Have you tried a law centre?

Stowe Family Law just gave me a free half hour - they have several branches and a good reputation as far as I can tell.

The free half hour was very informative (and in fact was rather longer than advertised). The solicitor I saw was very up front about possible costs and options.

I'm in Nottinghamshire and can point you towards one who does a free clinic on a Saturday morning.

It could be the best money you every spend OP. Don't do without a solicitor. Try and get a recommendation and then pay. Puzzled is right about cheaters but it applies to all break ups. Things may seem ok now but once your H has some other woman breathing down his neck and bending his ear you dont know what will transpire. Sorry if I sound harsh.
