Worried about DH job

Found out yesterday that DH has been given a written warning from his work as he has had a couple of days off without authorisation.
He has spent the days with us and told me that they are rota days due to machinery being cleaned or shut down etc.
He didnt tell me i found out cos my BIL works there and is worried about DH and he told my sister who told me.

DH very very depressed, not surprising as what is going on with the police etc, someone suggested to me for DH to get a sick note off his GP and take time out for a month and then at least he wont get into trouble for taking unauthorised leave.

Thing is i dont work and we have mortgage, bills, loans etc and he is worried about what would happen.

Has anyone been in this situation and if so what would you advise.

Really think that DH needs to take time off and spend it with the family.

TIA

go to the gp and get signed off

does he have access to occupational health? if so he should go and see them too and tell them the truth so that they are aware of the situation - he'll need their backup if disciplianry proceedings occurs further on. BTW if he self-refers to och health they have no right to divulge anything he saids or support he recieves under confidentiality.

It would be different if he was referred by an employer (och health can share certain info) and tbh should have been course of action rather than written warning as a first part.

whatever he does he needs to acknowledge and deal with the depression and the first stage is seeing his gp.

sorry if i sound thick but what is occupational health?

And can his work give him any further disclipinary action if he goes off on the sick?

och health - deal with health and safety at work; physical and mental health of employees.

should be able to access vis the human resources dept.

written warnings are formal therefore its the start of disciplinary - therefore if the same behaviour continues he could be suspended subject to investigation. good practice is to deal with things informally first - i.e verbal warning and support to get on with the job etc etc

he should access his disciplinary policies and check what they say.
