Hi All

lady in my late 30s...2 kids aged 8 and 4. No history of any abuse.

I have never had a huge sex drive and was a late starter to sex! (aged 20 when i lost virginity)

suffered vaginisimus for years pre children.

Has counselling a few times including psycho sexual and relationship counselling through relate with previous and current partner of 11 years. Didn't really work to be honest!

I take anti depressants (venlafaxine) and also have mirena coil implanted 2 years ago due to an unwanted pregnancy (im very fertile and dont want to ever go through that again)

I currently have NO sex drive and have had none for about 3 years. dont fancy dp and have never even fancied anyone else recently either!!

Anyway i have been wondering if hypnotherapy would work?

Anyone had any sort of hypnotherapy for any type of issue with sexual dysfunction?

Thanks

If you are effectively asexual rather than keep going through what must be very stressful hoops trying to kick-start a non-existent sex-drive, wouldn't it be better to be honest with yourself and your partner and plan what happens next on the basis that nothing is going to change? It may be that your relationship ends as a result - which is presumably what you're trying to avoid - but it must be a very unhappy experience for everyone in it at the moment.

FWIW I don't think sexual desire is something you can hypnotise yourself into feeling any more than you can feel hungry or thirsty on demand.

Thanks Cog.

I don't think I am asexual though as I have had some sex drive in the past albeit low!
I am going to change my venlafaxine to another anti dep.

I'm a qualified hypnotherapist. It can definitely be used to treat sexual issues but a good therapist would really need to spend time exploring the basis for these issues to get to the root of the problem.

Lack of attraction to your partner has to be the starting point. I'm not sure hypnotherapy in isolation would be suitable for you. What it could do is help you relax physically though. if you're interested, book a taster relaxation session and see how you get on.

I've been practised on endlessly in training and never found the experience anything other than positive.

I've had Holistic Hypnotherapy, but not for sexual problems.
Mine was for dealing with years of living with an abusive DH, so self esteem and stress issues.
It was brilliant.

Ah thanks everyone. How would I go about finding a reputable hypnotherapist? I live in the north east of that helps.

I had hypnotherapy 9 years ago to try to help me cope with vaginismus. It didn't work.

My background to it was a childhood where I suffered sexual abuse followed by a marriage to a man who abused me emotionally, physically, sexually and financially. After I finally got away from that man I fell into what I thought at the time was a loving relationship but the vaginismus was a huge spanner in the works and the relationship fell apart quickly. In an effort to please him I sought hypnotherapy. My hypnotherapist advised me that in her opinion, my problems would resolve once I met somebody who treated me decently.

4 years later, I met that person, and although it still happens on the rare occasions that I let my past intrude, I do believe that my hypnotherapist was spot on with her opinion and the problem was psychological manifesting in physical symptoms.
