Hi there,

Long time lurker first time poster here!

Just need some advice really, I've been with my partner for nearly 6 years and I have started to find that I really don't enjoy having sex, not because I don't love him, but because it just doesn't feel 'right'.
I always feel really uncomfortable, it never seems to be easy, all very fumbly. I very rarely feel anything when we are actually having intercourse, I much more prefer anything but if i'm honest.

Not only this but I'm starting to think if its just me, why don't I feel anything? He doesn't complain so surely something must be right? Has anyone else got experience of this and how can I sort it out? It's starting to make me feel a bit stupid for not enjoying sex.

When you say you don't feel anything do you mean you are numb? Or do you mean you don't feel any pleasure?

sebsmummy1 · 11/01/2014 11:29

So you didn't always feel like this I assume, has anything changed within those 6 years?

I don't feel that different downstairs since I had children but I suspect my pelvic floor isn't as strong as it once was. I also find that certain positions are infinitely more satisfying than others. So if you have got into a habit of standard missionary every time, that might be why you aren't feeling very much.

gaggiagirl · 11/01/2014 11:30

When you don't feel anything do you mean you can't feel penetration?

Do you feel it when you do it alone?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to ascertain if this is a physical or emotional issue.

sweetlikecherrypie · 11/01/2014 11:30

Sorry should have made that more clear - I don't feel any pleasure. But it's only intercourse that I feel like this, and usually afterwards I have a burning sensation, which I'm assuming is because I wasn't ready.

It's possible that you have an oestrogen imbalance. What you're experiencing is very common in women who are breastfeeding, but you don't have to be breastfeeding to experience an imbalance.

The GP can prescribe oestrogen creams and there are other options.

Fairylea · 11/01/2014 11:42

Has it always been this way for you or just with this partner?

Lilly3000 · 11/01/2014 11:54

Burning? Your GP will say it might be thrush or BV yadda-yadda. Took me eight years to find out that oestrogen was the problem. Ask your doctor if you can try Vagifem ( great name eh?) pessaries. I thought the burning was normal - after two pessaries I realised that it wasn't. Hope this helps xx

AuntieStella · 11/01/2014 12:03

You need to see your GP about the burning sensation to rule out underlying physical causes.

sweetlikecherrypie · 11/01/2014 12:06

I never thought of going to the doctor about it, just assumed this was normal? He's the only person I've ever slept with so haven't had anything to compare it with haha.

Thanks for your suggestions, will definitely ask my doctor! :)

This makes me so furious. In many countries, visiting a gynaecologist is no different from visiting a dentist - women go regularly for check ups. In this country we don't know our bodies and are at the mercy of the gps who know very little.
