Husband on thin ice

Hi, need advice please, am 32 weeks pg and already got a 2yo DS. Have had a difficult pregnancy so far, as got two underlying medical conditions, one of which just got very bad and extremely painful so had hard time sleeping. Last night, I fell asleep for a whole two hours (longest stretch in one go for months), when I get woken up by my husband to tell me that DS is crying! OH has obviously lost the use of his arms and legs as couldn't be bothered to got and sort out DS and used the reason that he was tired and had work today. I then didn't get back to sleep for about 3 hours as being woken up gave me a migraine. OH says I'm being selfish and unreasonable as he works a full day and I still expect help with bedtime routine. Although last night he came home late after DS was in bed and I already had dinner on table waiting. I think I'm likely explode soon, help please :)

I think you should explode. Or at the very least tell him your midwife has prescribed you a night in a hotel Wink

He works 9-5, while you work 24/7. In the home. Your work day doesn't end with office hours, and therefore, as a co-parent, nor does his.

Point this out. And if he doesn't take it on board, accept that he is an inadequate husband and father.

What is wrong with these men? I suppose they just want the playtime with them, anything else is 'work'. Ok it is, but why leave it all to one partner. Selfish, selfish man.

I forgot to add, that he told me that "my son" was awake, I replied with actually he's our son, but he didn't seem to take the hint!

So your husband, who was already awake, woke someone else up to deal with his son?

I'm also highly cynical about these men who come home from work after the kids are in bed (unless it's shift work of course).

Malanza4 · 10/01/2014 09:12

Yep, he was awake, but obviously mysteriously lost the use of all his limbs and couldn't manage the 5 metre stumble to next room ;). Thinking of making him a doctors appointment as obviously such loss of limbs would probably merit medical attention ;)

Assuming he knows how badly you've been sleeping and men can be thick.

Nuclear explosion totally justified.

Poor you. That's horrible.

I think first and foremost you need to be sure that he totally 100% understands how tired and rough you are feeling. Then you know whether he is being emotionally thick, or whether he is being a selfish twat.

Clutterbugsmum · 10/01/2014 09:59

Well I think you should stop doing HIS washing, cleaning and cooking HIS dinner.

If he thinks your job to look after your DS then I think you should do that, just look after your DS and yourself.

pointythings · 10/01/2014 13:18

What Clutterbugsmum said. That will focus his mind.

Selfish, entitled arse that he is. If my DH had ever done that, I would have ripped him a new one there and then. Explode all over him.
