I feel a bit daft posting here. I'm 18 and recently met a man while out clubbing. Found him attractive, really nice and genuine and a gent. We've been texting arranging to meet up and he mentioned that he's 27. He's just gotten out of a relationship with a married woman who he didnt know was married, and ended it once he found out. Is a 9 year age gap too big? I don't know if itll go any further or anything, but I'm really torn. On one hand I feel that 9 years is such a big gap and we're at different stages of our lives - he's an independent businessman while I'm in my first year of uni - but the other part of me says that age is just a number and I should go for it. Really torn, advice greatly received

No, it's fine. :)

You're 18. You shouldn't be thinking about any long term commitment - just date/shag the man if you want to, but dump him if he doesn't behave himself.

Just enjoy it for as long as you want to. Don't stop seeing your friends though, or curtail the activities that are open to you with friends your own age.

As above.

I had a truly awful experience when I was 18 (only 23 now) with a guy who was 25. Would be a long post to explain all the details but I think my age (and his) was a relevant factor. Keeping my friends and family closer throughout this 'relationship' (pah!) would have definitely helped. So ensure you do this.
I hope it turns out to be better than my experience was- even if short lived :)

The age-gap is not as big an issue as someone you hardly know spilling his guts about having an affair with a married women. That's way too much personal detail for someone you just met and I would seriously question his motives. Whatever else he is, he is emphatically not a 'gent'...... Hmm Proceed with caution.
