If you can't afford Relate what do you do?

I'll try not to bore you with lots of detail, but my marriage is hanging by a thread.
Although trust and communication are fundamentals we need to work on, it's all centred around money and debt. We've tried and failed to deal with it on our own for 6 months, maybe even making it worse.
I only know of Relate, what else could I do?

Stepchange (formerly the Consumer Credit Counselling Service) are a national debt advice charity. It may be worth calling them on 0800 138 1111.

Thanks for taking time to reply Attila

I didn't mean to drip feed but maybe summarised a bit too much.
DH is (supposedly) in the process of setting up a debt management plan with them. It's the corrosive effect on us as a couple and how we move forward without affecting the DCs that I need help with.

Relate can do reduced fees for people who are short of money, and I think in certain circumstances waive them entirely. Ring them for advice about it, I've always found them to be lovely and will help if they can. Hope things improve for you soon x

When we went to relate (it was about 8 years ago), they based their charges on a sliding scale. I think the standard charge was about £40/h, but they only asked us for what we could afford. It might be worth checking with them before you write them off, they might even see you for free.

Thanks Elle and AXE.
