Anyone know? And if so, what is the process?

Many thanks.

Not necessarily, no. Can you give any more detail as to why you are asking?

Locd35 · 15/11/2013 23:20

Not usually. It depends on the reason for the custodial sentence.

crazzzzycat · 15/11/2013 23:25

Will PM you wherethewildthingis is that is ok

Too many variables to say for certain.

DoubleLifeIsALifeOfSorts · 15/11/2013 23:34

Depends on alot, but it would seem logical for SS to at least do an assessment if the term is long or if the reasons would indicate an environment not conducive to good parenting / a safe environment for the child

crazzzzycat · 15/11/2013 23:44

Yes Double I agree of course, but how would they know that without doing as assessment IYSWIM?

Just really trying to ascertain if a parent going to prison is in and of itself a reason for SS to be notified. Nothing else whatsoever would suggest there should be any sort of assessment

Husband charged with financial crime, mother a highly paid professional, two very young children, husband presently primary child carer while mother works. if worst happens, mother and children will move in with mother's parents so mother can continue career.

If it matters, alleged crimes predate relationship with mother of children (which makes the whole situation rather more tragic I feel).

The authorities will be aware of the childrens ages. The police may well have advised SS if the children are at risk from harm because of the impact of the prison sentence on the family dynamic.

Social Services my well be satisfied that the remaining parent or prime carer does not need any support and will back off after speaking with the prime carer.

GhettoPrincess001 · 16/11/2013 00:54

Also, if the children are old enough to speak for themselves, they may well get their say too.

That includes speaking to younger children at the child's level about things. Social Services aren't always the bad guy.

ZombieMonkeyButler · 16/11/2013 00:56

As I understand it, SS would only be interested if the children were at risk. If the professional mum was prepared to go it alone (as many do) with the aid of professional childcare or GPs, then I very much doubt they would have an interest.

SS might be notified, but one meeting should hopefully dispel their concerns.

Sorry crazy baby issues last night! Please feel free to pm but based on what you have said I think zombie is right. There is no automatic system for ss to be informed and if someone did, they would just want to check the children had a suitable carer.
