I started talking two a old friend the other day on fb. Now his partner saw that we were talking and has split up with him. She thinks we been talking for months and may have met up for sex. None of this is true she is messaging me on fb calling me everything under the sun.

Telling me about her kids and stuff I don't know how to reassure her I've offered her to come over and read the messages as her partner has deleted them but she says I'll have deleted any incriminating ones. I've stopped talking to him I just feel so bad that I've caused this.

You haven't caused anything. The partner is either irrationally jealous or your old friend has a history of playing away from home. It's not your job to reassure this woman of anything, it's his. Ignore all contact, defriend, block or whatever it is you have to do on FB to get rid of someone. If that doesn't work, call the police and have her warned. Seriously, you are not responsible

cloudskitchen · 30/10/2013 08:16

Agree with Cognito. You have done what you can to reassure. I would now ignore her. This is not your fault.

onetiredmummy · 30/10/2013 08:16

What were you talking about? What could she have seen?

If you're entirely innocent then there's nothing that you can do, she has to confront her own issues. I do find it strange that if this is an overreaction its caused by a couple of innocent messages. Perhaps the man has form for infidelity or some such & this is the last straw. Don't assume she is unreasonable without knowing her reasons :)

If there is a reason for her to think infidelity then leave him alone & let him concentrate on what he wants to do. Also you think what you would like to happen as well.

ALittleStranger · 30/10/2013 08:18

Eh? You haven't caused anything. Your behaviour is totally innocent and reasonable.

Either he is having an affair with someone else, is DP suspects this and you've been "framed".

Or she has huge trust and jealousy issues and it's unfortunate you're the latest trigger.

Tell your friend but you can't fix this. Either there's another affair you're not aware of or you're dealing with an irrational partner.

We were talking about ps3 games and ps+. That's all she saw.

Did he contact you on FB?

You could just be the last in a number of women he has been talking to and she may think it has been going on for a long time. You have tried to reassure her. It is not your business.

I suggest you block them both on FB and move on. Dont take other peoples problems to heart.

CogitoEerilySpooky · 30/10/2013 08:19

BTW... it would be appropriate to talk to your old friend and tell him to get his partner to back off.

Crawling · 30/10/2013 08:21

I'll block them thank you I guess I've done all I can.

Perhaps he's got form for online cup heating, and what looks like an utter overreaction from her pov is a camel's straw moment for her.

After all, he was an 'old' friend and it was only 'the other day' that you started chatting. There could be huge parts of his life about which you know nothing whatsoever.

It's up to him to fix or move on from his primary relationship. As he clearly hasn't been a big part of your life for some time, I suggest you leave him alone to get on with it. Perhaps he'll reemerge into your circle of friends when he is clear of this. But right now, I think this is far more trouble than a few messages are worth.
