Mosschops,

My friend's Mum was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons and she (the daughter) was given the following contact for a support group. She as her daughter has found it to be useful (apologies if you already know of them):-

www.parkinsons.org.uk

I would contact the DVLA about your Dad's driving (think you can do this annoymously) asap.

Would your Mum be willing to talk to her GP about his current condition?. If she does not do it you may well have to.

From their website re driving:-

Having Parkinson's does not necessarily mean your licence will be affected, although you may be required to have a medical or take a driving test. Many people with Parkinson's can and do continue to drive for many years after diagnosis, if supported by their doctor. However, you have a legal obligation to inform the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of your diagnosis.

www.crossroads.org.uk is the website in question. They are also featured on the parkinsons.org.uk website - some of their branches work closely with Crossroads.

Will your Mum go to the support group or ask for help from such people?.

As for Social Services I would actually speak with Crossroads first off before having any involvement with them as they (Crossroads) will actually have more experience. Also many SS depts are overstretched and underfunded, any help will be a long time coming if its actually suitable that is.

The PDA also have a helpline:-

0808 800 03 03
Monday - Friday: 9:30 - 5:30

The call is free
