Just that really!! I am a sahm to 2 boys. Oldest is 2.4 and youngest 11 months.

Not much.

But he works for himself, sometimes 11 or 12 hours per day.

I am a SAHM, however Ds is 15, so I have loads of time to manage

everything house and car and holiday related.

IslaValargeone · 14/09/2013 16:27

Very little.
Wouldn't know how to work the washing machine for example but would certainly whizz round with the vacuum if I asked.

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 14/09/2013 17:19

He takes out the recycling and trash -coeffort with ds, and will do a run to the dump/recycle center (when needed).

He does the bathrooms every other weekend on average. Very rarely, he will wash up on a weekend.

He fondly recalls holding the baby on one arm and hoovering with the other . But rarely runs the vac now unless we are moving furniture or somethig like that.

Every third or forth year, he will clean the siding on our house by hand because our siding has a beaded contour and regular methods won't work.

He won't do laundry, but may iron his work shirts (if he wants them ironed- he does not work under a dress code).

He will not do grocery shopping, but he will buy his own toiletries

We have 3 dc: ds -20, dd1- 19, and dd2- 5; married 23 yrs.
He is a workaholic, commutes 40min each way, regularly does a 12hr day.

dh cuts the grass....

er...

bakes flapjacks when im fed up and pays all bills and that's good enough for me!!

oh oh he does look after my car for me, tyres, windscreen wash etc

TheVermiciousKnid · 14/09/2013 17:26

More than me at the moment.

TheVermiciousKnid · 14/09/2013 17:50

Sorry, should have read the title properly - I'm not really a SAHM at the moment. I'm not quite sure what I am.

But even when I was a SAHM DH did stuff around the house, including putting the washing on, cooking, hoovering etc. Why shouldn't he?

spacegirl81 · 14/09/2013 19:06

That's what I think too! I have to ask him to do every little thing and if I don't it doesn't get done and then he wonders why I moan!! It's impossible to get everything done in day with 2 little ones!!!

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 14/09/2013 19:25

quite a bit. It wouldn't bother me if he did less (although I wouldn't want him to expect me to do everything) because tbh I feel he does more than his fair share.

StraightJacket · 14/09/2013 20:20

Quite a lot to be fair, I do feel like I should do more than I do. But, my health is crap and DP understands and doesn't complain. Although it doesn't stop me feeling guilty still!

FiveHoursSleep · 14/09/2013 20:23

Loads when he's here.
He sorts out the washing anyhow ( I hang out, fold up and put away), and cooks us dinner ( I do the kids) and during the weekends does bath/bedtime.
But during the week he works long hours so I do almost everything.

mumofboyo · 14/09/2013 20:56

I'm not a SAHM, I work part-time as a supply teacher, but I've just had 4 weeks off with the dc as there was no work (obviously!)
Dh did the same amount of household chores as he normally does, whether I've been at home all day or if it's been one of my work days.
He cooks tea every other night (unless there's a tea in the slow cooker or we get a take away).
He dries up as I wash up.
He takes his turn to put a load of washing on and put it to dry/put the dry stuff away.
He gets one dc ready for bed as I do the other.
He gets all the breakfast things ready.
He gets one child dressed, nappy changed and eczema cream on in the morning as I do the other.
He takes his turn to mow the lawn.

I have struggled with depression, still do, since dd was born nearly a year ago and sometimes find the amount of stuff that needs doing a bit overwhelming and get a bit panicky and almost paralysed, especially if dd has had an unsettled night. During those times dh has done even more than listed above.

Fairylea · 14/09/2013 20:59

I do pretty much everything. Dh works 50 hours a week often starting at 8am and sometimes finishing at 10.30pm.

We have two dc aged 10 and 15 months.

Dh will do bins, cutting grass, general house maintenance stuff.

I know he would gladly do stuff round the house if I asked him to but he wouldn't do it to my standards so I'd rather do it myself! :)

Fairylea · 14/09/2013 21:00

Oh saying that dh does clean the kitchen and load the dishwasher after I cook every day.... if he's home anyway.

FannyFifer · 14/09/2013 21:00

We do pretty much the same amount. DP prob does more than me tbh.

valiumredhead · 14/09/2013 21:02

He does anything that needs doing that I haven't had time to do.

spacegirl81 · 14/09/2013 21:23

Do you have set jobs? Or pick things up as you go along? For me it's the little things, so not changing toilet roll, not putting nappies in outside bin, recycling left out etc etc like the little fairy will come along and sort it! Which I do because it annoys me!!!

wigglesrock · 14/09/2013 21:23

Probably just a bit less than me. He works shifts, so sometimes he's not about - but he's here we split it.

I'm at home to look after the kids, not do the housework.

We share the school runs, the hovering, I mainly do the bathrooms. He changes the beds, mows the grass. I do most of the washing because I'm in the house more during the day. Neither of us iron Smile

We share the shopping, the cooking and dishes are fairly evenly split.

wigglesrock · 14/09/2013 21:25

obviously we share the hoovering not hovering although that sounds more fun!

ShootMeNowPlease · 14/09/2013 21:29

I'm the WOHP, DH is at home with DS. I think it's a fair 50-50 split at weekends. During the week DH obviously does nearly all the child care, plus all the clearing up after DS, making meals and so on. He also does all the laundry, and such gardening as gets done around here. I do ironing, bins, dishwasher, general tidy-up when I get home, and nursery drop-offs on DS's two nursery days, plus the financial admin and filing. We have a cleaner once a week for the rest and I have fantasies of getting a housekeeper.
