Womens Aid appeal for real life stories

This appeared on my FB page earlier today. I've emailed as I'm happy to share, and I wondered if anyone here was too.

As part of our work to raise awareness of domestic violence, we are looking for stories from women who have first-hand experience of the realities of abuse. We?re currently looking for women to talk about their experiences in the media (anonymously if you prefer), to help us explain exactly what abuse is, how to get support and what could be done to prevent it in the future. We?re looking for a wide variety of experiences of all kinds of abuse, from women of all different backgrounds.

To get involved email [email protected] to express your interest and we will contact you to arrange a 1-2 hour conversation with the Women?s Aid Media Relations Officer to talk through your experiences. We will then contact you occasionally when opportunities to speak to the media arise and discuss these fully with you. Women?s Aid takes your safety very seriously and will always ensure you are comfortable with any media contact and support you throughout. For safety reasons we are unable to share the experiences of women who are still in an abusive relationship.

If you are interested in sharing your story, especially if there is a message you would like to hear represented in the media, please get in touch to find out more

I might email them anyway but not sure my 'story' would be the best to highlight the issue.

but will email because it is something I feel strongly about.

after not being brave enough to email WA for over 7 months, I finally got in touch yesterday so that is twice I have been in contact with them in 48 hours.Grin

Thanks for posting about this. I've emailed them too. I so wish they would go into schools to teach boys and girls what a normal relationship should be.

tomsellecklover......My son's secondary school had a day of workshops about domestic abuse a couple of months ago. He said they were held by RisingSun (I might have the name wrong) but the name he mentioned is that of a group in our local big town that does follow-on work/counselling etc from the Freedom Programme, so I think there could well be some connection.
I thought it was great that they were doing this type of work in schools, they did role play and lots around abuse that isn't actually physical (the only concern I had was whether it might have been "triggering" for my son at all, after his own experiences!).
