Son has been going to preschool and I had dd3 at beginning of term so lots of oooooos and aaaaaahs all year long. Two girls who I talk to (not socialise with) have just had babies. We have the fact we all have 3 children in common. Ds1 was invited to one of the mum's ds birthday party. The other didn't invite ds to her dd party but ts a big class(40). My kids have started gymnastics and now I sit and chat with these women. Didn't realise their kids went. Should I get these women a card/present? Another women gave one of the a pressie but think they all live near each other? Or is that too much given we talk but dont really socialise?

I'd maybe give a card but probably not present but then when my dd was born I got presents from people I'd never really had that much to do with so maybe I'm just tight!

I think a card is a nice idea, I don't think anyone doesn't like getting a card!

See, I would give something small. Just yesterday, I bought one of those buggy/teething things for a mum that I know through DS's swimming. I had talked to DS about getting a present for the baby and DS had been enthusiastic so I just said to the mum that DS had wanted to buy the present. Cost me £2.99 and DS gave it to the mum and there was the cute factor in that too.

And I would also not give a card - its quite formal isn't it? Where as a token present from your child isn't.
