Songs to recover from a breakup!!

overtheraenbow · 12/04/2013 17:21

Ok ladies doing a playlist on my new phone and thought what songs have become significant over the last year get me through the breakup and came up with the following;

  1. Broken Strings ( James Morrison/Nellie Furtado) At the beginning
  2. You Outta Know ( Alanis Morrisette) When I found out about OW
  3. I Dreamed a Dream ( Anne Hathaway Les Mis; I went to see the film and this song made me howl!!)
  4. If I had a Heart (Andy Burrows)

OK now I feel its time to move to the next phase in the 7 (ie; Shock, denial, anger, isolation, bargaining, depression and acceptance ;albeit with a few wallows back in the previous phases on a bad day)

So, suggestions for Phase 7 please!! and what songs were significant for you in the phases.

For the anger bit I recommend a song called 'Die, Ricki, Die' by a band called Mindset. YouTube it. Whoever wrote that song probably had a ton of rage to get rid of.

EugenesAxe · 12/04/2013 20:33

A big break-up album of mine (cathartic, sob-inducing vibes) has to be No Need To Argue by the Cranberries.

In particular Twenty-one and Ridiculous Thoughts. Don't really know why. Once I am through the pain and anger, I tend to enter a vaguely maniacal phase, at which points songs like Psycho Killer and Interstellar Overdrive (Pink Floyd), maybe a bit of Smiths too, become good. Also, of course, my Floyd namesake Careful With that Axe Eugene, and the whole of the album The Wall.

Some good rockesque, emotion outpourer numbers might be White Wedding and Hell Is Living Without You (Alice Cooper). Maybe also Spending My Time by Roxette.

"Don't go breakin' your heart" - it's just that line that came into my head, but it's probably a lot easier said than done.

On the other hand how about "Hallelujah" - the Leonard Cohen version, not any of the covers. Especially "the lonely, the broken Hallelujah".

Reminds me, I've not finished his biog that dh gave me for Christmas. It seems like only yesterday I saw him for the first time at the Floral Pavillion in Southport.

Reader - it was 37 years ago (and I married him).

WildlingPrincess · 12/04/2013 23:18

Try by P!nk helped me. Also, Cry Over Me by Meatloaf.
