Help me fill my weekend... Please :-(

Have split with Dp. Am very wobbly even though it was my call, and he is trying to sort it out.

Ds is away at his dads all weekend, I need to fill my weekend with stuff to stop me moping/crying/calling him/etc etc

Any suggestions? Haven't got unlimited funds, or a huge circle of friends but am quite happy in my own company

Thanks

(((Tries to be brave and stuff)))

What do you like doing? What couldn't you do when you were with DP? In your shoes I'd probably spend the weekend taking long walks, playing raucous jazz numbers on the piano and necking down the finest red in my wine collection before watching my much-loved box set of Pride and Prejudice featuring Colin Firth! .... but that's me. What would make you happy?

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 12:15

Shopping, wine, spa, cake Grin

Although really don't want to spend £££ as have just booked a holiday. And too much wine probably isn't the best idea unless I hide my phone Wink

You can achieve a Home Spa if you nip over to Boots and get yourself some beauty product. When you have kids it's lovely to soak in the bath, apply a mud-pack, exfoliate the knees or whatever in peace and quiet for a change. Good call on the wine... OK then, Earl Grey with your cake or something else posh and non-alcoholic!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/03/2013 12:24

I like baking. It kind of distracts my thinking and puts me in another place.

I put 6music or Radio 2 on and bash out some dough. You could make some hot cross buns.

Or a huge Victoria sponge cake and then scoff it in the evening with a movie and a glass of wine. or if you want to be sensible, make some healthy biscuits for the week for DS.

Can you give yourself a nice home pedi? Soak your feet in the washing up bowl, then then do your toe nails etc. it's an enjoyable hour of peace and quiet!

SenoritaViva · 14/03/2013 12:28

Home spa is a super idea as you'll have to go and get the stuff etc.

Do you just like eating cake or is baking also up your street? You could bake for DS. On top of baking you could also make a few meals to fill your freezer for when you're very busy, or just back from your holiday.

Can you spend the whole day shopping? And when I mean the whole day I mean do it budget style, try on everything you like then only go back for the best few picks of the day at the end?

Do you read? Purchase a great novel. Are you into art or museums? I'd personally love to spend time in an art gallery without child harassment!

Exercise? A run might be good with some great music, if you don't have great music you could fill some time hunting and downloading some.

Cleaning? I know definitely not fun but somewhat satisfying (cleaning out the cupboards say).

Sorting out your wardrobe and getting rid of all the out of date stuff.

Go to the cinema or rent a film.

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 12:31

Thanks. Some great suggestions.

Baking, shopping, sorting out wardrobe and home spa sound right up my street. Am much better if I have a plan.

Just remembered a lovely cafe for sat morning with the papers...

Get an M & S "Dine in for Two" meal.
Or "Dine in for One, Twice" as I call it.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 14/03/2013 12:35

This may not be your thing (could be a bit depressing, potentially), but I have always enjoyed going to the cinema on my own - no need to make small talk etc, just sit and enjoy a good film, but surrounded by people so that you don't descend into a wine-and-chocolate stupor Grin

Failing that, people-watching (maybe when you've finished the Saturday papers) is always fun!

Orchidlady · 14/03/2013 12:39

I am recently single and am going redecorate my bedroom in a colour of MY choice something girly probably. Mind you lots of lovely wine and a good movie sound great too. Keep your chin up Smile

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 12:39

Had just thought about the pictures. That's a definite. Trashy film and nachos... Bliss.

Go and jump on the beds whilst your DS's not around. In fact, you can do anything you don't want him to learn from you - eat a whole chocolate cake over the weekend, drink milkshake, eat cereal dry from the box, lie in your dressing gown until 2pm.

What would you do if your DS went to your mum's for the weekend?

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 13:18

Oooh new bedding....

I have Next Directory account... I could order a new bedroom tonight and it would be here tomorrow..... Wink

Def going to make triple choc brownies tomorrow.

And beef on Sunday.

Don't go mad with the Next catalogue! Though what about making a mood board to plan your bedroom makeover? Pinterest is good for ideas.

House stuff - is there anything you wanted to do with the house that your ex didn't like? Now's the time to do it! Change rooms around, put the toaster in a cupboard, chuck out clutter get the house the way you like it Grin

A perfect me time weekend for me would be:

gym session or yoga class or bike ride followed by coffee and papers in a nice cafe; or

visit to a gallery; or

cinema in the afternoon (posh cinema with luxury seats and a bar or cafe);

craft session (I like crochet and cross stitching)

Longer-term, if you're in or near a larger town or city, meetup.com is a good place to find friendly activity groups. I've joined a wonderful book group through it. I also go hiking with the Ramblers (not just for middle aged people they have younger groups too) you can try out a couple of walks for free before committing to membership.

I also belong to a "social" bike club, they do relaxed rides with a pub or cafe lunch, rather than super speedy lycra-clad riding. If you have a bike that's a very affordable day out and cyclists are usually very friendly.

HellonHeels · 14/03/2013 13:55

Forgot to add - hope you really enjoy your weekend. Post back and tell us what you've been doing x

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 14:01

Thankfully it's my house and we never lived together!

I clean. I can never tire of it! Sad I know.

Then when I've cleaned I wax the floors and tart up boring old furniture with nice F&B oil eggshell.

I've decorated most of the rooms in my house in the last five months. And learned how to do DIY (loving my electric screwdriver).

Orchidlady I loved doing my bedroom, that I don't have to share. It's pink obviously. Cinder Rose by F&B. I chose it partly because a woman wrote in a review on their website that she cheered herself up by painting her room in it after having her heart broken. It looks fabulous with cream and black to break up the girliness.

And when I'd finished it I rewarded myself with a big bunch of flowers :)

The house is nearly finished and spring is springing so i'm going to start planting lots of bulbs in my tiny garden, to flower in the summer and autumn.

Small pleasures.

PrincessRagnhild · 14/03/2013 14:20

Do you like doing creative stuff? Drawing, card-making, sewing etc? Projects like that always take me completely out of my own head and time flies by. Sounds like it's shaping up to be a lovely weekend already though :)

willdivorcesoon · 14/03/2013 14:39

My marriage recently broke up and I signed up on a sewing course and after just 6 lessons can run up a girls dress on a sewing machine. I find its great for filling time when I'm at a lose end.

Maybe find a hobby you love and get stuck in to make the most of child free time!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/03/2013 15:36

Oooh quite liking Meetup.com! Thanks for that.

Have found an English speaking book group in Basel and I'm in the process of emailing to ask if I can join.

I've decided 2013 is the year I get a wider group of acquaintances!

Geordieminx · 14/03/2013 15:37

Really toying with the idea of redoing my bedroom... Smile I can see this turning into an expensive weekend

The DCs spent their first week with STXH last week, I was dreading it and thought I'd have loads of empty time. In fact I was so busy I could have done with them being away for another week. I worked during the day and decorated my dining room on the evenings. It's motivated me to do the rest of the house. I've realised EXH had complete say in how anything was done in this house and I need to put my own stamp on it.

I didn't even get time to start on the gardening, I need to dig the veg patch over and plant a whole load of bulbs for summer flowers.

Another project I have planned is painting up so old pieces of furniture I've got in the hope that it will give them a new lease of life because I can't afford to buy anything new.

Sadly STXH isn't very good at maintaining contact with the DCs so I'm going to have to get on with my projects while they're at home.
