Money Lenders. WWYD?

Name changed.

Whilst dusting the mantelpiece, DP's wallet fell on the floor and all the cards exploded. Whilst putting them back, I found a 'Premium Plus Money Shop account holder' card. It has DP's photo on, name and his DOB but no start date/expiry date, so I don't know how current it is. I don't know what to do. I've googled and really don't like what I see.

I know he has a credit card but has said previously the total is minimal.

We've recently moved in together, about 3months ago, and we opened a joint account where we both put money in each month for bills etc.

DP is 32 btw.

Should I be cross? I don't know what to think. Should I talk about it with him? WWYD??

To save further Googling and page hits for the Money Shop, what is it?

I guess this is the business it relates to? Looks like a payday loan place. I don't like them either.

I think you need to ask about it and discuss finances generally in more depth. You need to know if you want to combine your finances any further or if he's a financial mess

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/03/2013 08:45

Yes I would tell him what you found, show him this and gauge his reaction carefully. If he is a financial mess I would think very carefully about your actual future together.

Agree with Attila...my exP resorted to this, and it was a very slippery slope. Fortunately Id always kept our finances very separate. Consider too what else he could be hiding from you.

sooperdooper · 10/03/2013 09:26

Definitely ask him, but from personal experience don't jump to conclusions.

I was in a terrible state with money once and took out a very short loan from a payday loan place, I was just stuck for a short time until my wages came through and I only did it once because although the % was high it was less than bank charges for going over my overdraft

Give him the chance to explain, it might not be the end of the world

GingerJulep · 10/03/2013 09:26

One thing: you shouldn't be cross unless you've discussed loans and he has said he has never had one.

However great they are/aren't they are a reality for many.

You're unlikely to find someone who makes great financial decisions every time. Or indeed someone who makes the same ones as you.

It is about working out how to live with someone in a way that seems like a good decision for both.

If you cash a cheque there, you get one of those cards.

Is it possible he did that?
