Recomendations please? I know this may not be in the right area but just want some quick suggestions for something a bit different, he doesn't really have any hobbies i could buy for.....and i dont have a huge budget but would like to get him something nice/useful tia

What about a photo album - bare with me...

Assuming your DF was born in 1953, you could have a baby photo of him alongside a major news event of the year. For example, Hillary and Tensing reached the summit of Everest in 1953. Try and link the two, so as your DGM was in labour with your DF so to were H & T. Who worked the hardest har har... You could even do what was happening in the world on his birthday every year. Has your DF lived around the same area all his life (doesn't really matter) you could link to local news, 'man grows humorous vegetable ...'

I found a website that does retro sweets and they do chests of sweets from particular decades! I bought DF a box from the 50's for his 60th last year (aabout £35 quid) and it had loads of sweets from his childhood. He loved it!!

DB & DH are turning 40 this year and will be getting a box from the 70's complete with sherbert fountains!!

The album idea is great! I will remember and store that one!

I know you can buy a newspaper from past dates which could be nice. Or get personalised things from football clubs if he is a supporter with the year of birth and their stuff that year or something like that...

I gave my Dad 60 pieces of paper....every one said something different that I love about him. He cried tears of happiness & keeps them in a jar.

I got mine a helicopter flying lesson for his 70th. Pricey, (£200), but he loved it!
