Would you hire a private investigator if you suspected your DH of infidelity?

I am considering this, but have no idea (a) how to find one or (b) if I could begin to afford one. Have any of you been in the unhappy position of having to hire one? DH is in London area, on his own for a stretch & talking about making a little European holiday solo. I wouldn't normally think much of it, but he got defensive when I tried to talk to him about the trip. And of course, when the cat's away and all that. . .Plus, other odd things have made me wonder.

I've changed my name, by the way.

Been there, done that. It is very expensive wonderingwife. I had my H tailed for 6 hours in London and it cost me £850. You won't necessarily get conclusive evidence either. What if they do see him out to dinner with another woman? Unless, they can actually catch them snogging, how could you tell he wasn't just out with a work colleague?
Could you check his mobile or PC?
How about confrontation? You probably know your DH well enough to know if he is glancing off the truth.
Go carefully, even if you think you may not mind, it can be horribly shocking to uncover lies and deception.
