hmm, What is he grumpy about?
everything?
And has he always been that way, or is he worse as he gets older.

bonzo77 · 04/11/2012 14:11

I don't think so. They tend to get worse. Sometimes you can avoid the grumpiness by treading on eggshells, but this doesn't work long term as the grump's grump threshold just gets lower. I would say...

leave the bastard.

Frontpaw · 04/11/2012 14:35

Hmmm. My grandfather was grumpy but quite funny with it - he'd be in full rant about someone hiding his slippers or cane or somesuch, and we'd all end up howling with laugher (him included) as he would catch himself ranting.

Nope. Once a grump always a grump. It gets worse with age too :(

I love my grump, but I do often want to beat him with a happy stick when he's having a grumble.

thenightsky · 04/11/2012 14:55

No... they just get grumpier with age.

Tis the reason my vodka consumption is going up.

amillionyears · 04/11/2012 14:58

I have realised you havent actually said who is the grump you are talking about?

pictish · 04/11/2012 15:06

Define 'grump'.

susiedaisy · 04/11/2012 15:08

No you can't, once a grump always a grump, its ingrained in them like the writing in a stick of rock!!

Grumpla · 04/11/2012 15:09

I am what I am.

AmberLeaf · 04/11/2012 15:11

I don't think so.

I also think 'grump' tends to be code for 'cold, unfeeling, bordering emotionally abusive arsehole'

BluelightsAndSirens · 04/11/2012 15:12

Do they really get worse?

Gawd

pictish · 04/11/2012 15:16

That's what I'm wondering Amber.

There are grumps like Rory McGrath and Stephen Fry expostulating their peeves with wit and sharp observation, making us chuckle knowingly, and there are miserable, rude, aggressive tossers that drag everything down and suck the joy out of it .

Which are we dealing with?

amillionyears · 04/11/2012 15:20

Grumpla? Are you saying that you are unable to change your behaviour at all?

fuzzpig · 04/11/2012 15:26

Depends if the grump actually wants to change.

AmberLeaf · 04/11/2012 15:37

Yes Pictish!

Knowing which one you are dealing with is key.

Grumpla · 04/11/2012 16:12

For me "Grump" is the result of years of hard work.

Started off as a depressive judgemental emotionally abusive arsehole. Hated myself. Didn't much like anyone else. Decided to improve.

Am now just a bit grumpy.

TA-DAAAAAA!!!! Grin

AmberLeaf · 04/11/2012 16:16

Well done on your self improvement Grumpla Grin

amillionyears · 04/11/2012 16:31

Well that is actually very good Grumpla. Well done!
