He refuses to acknowledge it and tells DS that it is worthless and not needed. He does however send his own Mother a card and sometimes flowers.

Leave him!!

Anadarling · 26/03/2006 18:26

Ahhh, DH is the same. That was our Sunday's argument.
Men...

carla · 26/03/2006 18:31

My Mother's Day is only ever acknowledged by my children ... because of my Mum. I knew there were two bouquets in the garden shed, and knew Mum bought them for dds to give to me.

H acknowledging it? Pile of pants!

Blackduck · 26/03/2006 18:33

He's a hypocrite then, if it means nothing at all why send something to his own mother?

Carmenere · 26/03/2006 18:34

drosophilia - thats pretty low imho. At least if he has a principle he should apply it accross the board.

edam · 26/03/2006 18:36

He's just being selfish. And cheap. Nasty way to use your ds, too. Does he give any reasons?

PeachyClair · 26/03/2006 19:21

tell him you agree, but don't tell him until fathers Day.

Chandra · 26/03/2006 20:47

HAd the same, DH sent DS in yesterday with the card he had done at the nursery... (didn't even know when was mother's day!) Out of a "BTW happy mothers day" today nothing special. the only thing that bothers me is that up to recently he would get angry with me if I didn't remind him to ring/sent something to his mum on the day... grrr!

drosophila · 27/03/2006 10:38

He tells me that I am not his mother and it's up to my children to celebrate it with me. They are 6 nd 14mths. I suppose he has a point it is commercial etc.

Well Christmas is commercial, birthdays are commercial. Doesn't stop us celebrating them though.

Mother's day existed long before commercialism.

robin3 · 27/03/2006 10:47

It's a day when the cared for should think about the carer and that's great for kids IMO. It shouldn't be commercial...it's about showing respect.
I also think children get a great deal of pleasure from giving and being thoughtful...I did when I was a child.
If your DH doesn't feel the need to nurture your contribution in this way, he won't mind if you don't recognise his Birthday, will he?

jmum6 · 27/03/2006 10:48

I hope you have the same opinions about fathers day.

podkin · 27/03/2006 10:50

He would say that wouldn't he ?

LunarSea · 27/03/2006 16:01

I've got one like that - except that he expects ME to send HIS mother a card and flowers, nominally from HIM!
