Corrie, getting it right?

I feel that the abuse story on Corrie is getting it so right. Especially the bit where friends/family are being cut off from Tyrone (the abused). Do you agree?

Just me then eh?

Haven't got a telly so can't comment. Who is Tyrone being abused by?

savoycabbage · 27/08/2012 22:39

I know what you mean. He is between a rock and a hard place really as she is carrying his baby.

And she is so sorry afterwards and she wants to change. At least he has financial independence.

savoycabbage · 27/08/2012 22:40

By his girlfriend Kitty. She is 8 1/2 months pregnant.

I think they seem to be getting it right, though if they want to evoke sympathy for Kirsty it is failing with me, I hate her Grin

Domestic violence? So it's being well portrayed then? Interesting angle. Not a side of dv which is covered usually. I hope it manages to reach people in similar situations and is helpful.

Elephantshavewrinkles · 27/08/2012 23:06

I think it is well covered and highlights the growing problem of men suffering from domestic violence.

CaramelisedOnion · 27/08/2012 23:56

very much so. especially about how she always turns it around and makes it his fault.

Challen · 28/08/2012 00:07

Absolutely, so far. It's going along in recognised textbook stages now that Kirsty is beginning to isolate him from his friends.

However, making her abuse public amongst their friends is an unusual scenario, as most domestic abuse is kept private and friends and family rarely know what is happening.

It is fantastic that a soap is going along with such a storyline highlighting DV against men in relationships. I hope they take it to the extremes and taboos that is often the case in real life.

Lonelylou · 28/08/2012 08:39

Sorry not to reply Kitty I went to bed.

I'm interested in how she is isolating her husband from people. I know of two real life cases of this at the moment. Not involved, just aware of how family is being cut off or controlled. It's devastating for the family but the blokes don't seem to be aware or are too scared to go against wives.

What to do? Except keep telling the blokes about Mankind and that they have a plan B to go home but they both have kids involved. Poor men.

That's ok Lou. So did I! Gosh that's so sad and must be really hard to have to watch. Have you been able to tell these individuals about Mankind? I hope things improve for them. I imagine it's more common than we realise. People use the phrase 'hen pecked' almost for comedy effect but I think the reality is more serious than that and not at all funny.

Lonelylou · 28/08/2012 09:23

As I say I'm not directly involved but know famillies. I have told the famillies about Mankind though.

It will be interesting if Corrie takes this story on for a long time and shows the effect on the kids not being able to have contact with relatives. The kids are confused and the relatives are devastated.

Sorry, Lou, yes you did say that. Must be heartbreaking for the families. I can't imagine.
