just curious. a mumsnetter mentioned making cards together and it got me thinking about all the things couples could do together.
what else is there?

But we have only been together for 3 years - ask me again in 5 years it may all be very different!

SHHHH · 05/03/2006 14:45

DH & I don't go out for meals, cinema etc alone as dd is only 9 mths and we don't feel the need to leave her yet. BUT we do still go out shopping as a family,or for meals as a family or for walks as a family etc.
We do however have time at night together, either watching tv,chatting,or even I sit on the computer while dh plays on playstation Blush BUT we are in the same room..!!!

Friends of our however are different. They seem to both work different hours, always seem to go out with a group of friends or one watches tv with the other in another room...they are together and seem happy..............

BUT TBH I don't think it's always about what you do as a couple. It depends on if you are happy in the relationship, thats what counts.

we do nothing together. not even fight. either he yells at me, and i ignore it, or i yell at him aand he ignores me.

those of you who say things like sitting down and having a chat, or a cuddle on the sofa. cherishh wwhat you have. its precious.

dh is a workaholic. when he is at home, he is either working, or on the internet, usually working oor if he is watching tv, he's not interested in watching with me. will either change the channel, or go into the other room to watch his own programme.

sex? whats that?

the cynic in me is glad to know that not all people end up with such crap relatiionships.

blueteddy · 05/03/2006 18:15

Have you ever tried talking to him about all this, stitch?

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:18

he's not interested bluteddy. its hard to get his attention for long enough to tell him about kids stuff. all that ends up happening is i get mega upset. and do a load of yelling. so get called screaming banshee woman.

oh well, these are the choices in life that we make.

its lovely to hear what all of you on mn do.

OP posts:
charliecat · 05/03/2006 18:19

stitch, we do these things inbetween not doing anything, being glued to different tellys/pcs etc...can you try watching whatever hes watching too?

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:22

i have tried charlie, but its like banging your head againsta brick wall.
you cant make someone do something they dont want to.

noddyholder · 05/03/2006 18:27

Loads Meals out cinema theatre lots of walking(boring to others but we love it) Rummaging around old reclamation sites Picnics in the summer You name it we do it!We are best friends and like a lot of the same things

stitch · 05/03/2006 18:31

noddy, all that sounds wonderful. and charlie, even the nagging part soounds lovely. as he obviously lets you nag him. iyswim. being ablet o nag someone is also an expression of closeness.

tbh, i dont think going to the cinema together is much of a together thing. as you dont really do anything together. unless you dissect the filmm on the way back.

GDG · 05/03/2006 19:41

Not much time without kids tbh - really only evenings. But we do tend to spend those evenings together - always eat a meal together and then watch TV, DVD or play on the playstation or just sit and chat. We spend most evenings chatting and we are very close.

Otherwise we do stuff together but with the kids - equally important imo.

rarrie · 05/03/2006 19:57

Apart from takeaways and meals. We have a few joint friends who we both go to see together. Plus we send my DD off to Grannies once a month so we get a night out / in together.

Also, sad though it is, every saturday night we do something together, sometimes have a takeaway, or watch tv but mostly we play boardgames together.

I think it helps to keep our marriage happy!

Soopermum1 · 05/03/2006 22:40

pre DS we went to the cinema a lot and out for meals. now it's nice lunches out, with DS in tow. we like our takeaways, often i read and he plays in the computer, if it's something we really like watching, like 'the apprentice' we'll sit ad watch it together while DH gives me a running commentary grrrrrrrr. we're quite into diy, well, not really the diy, but the end result, so i suspect there'll be a lot of trips to b&q ahead of us when we finally move house.

we don't have any mutual friends, though, which troubles me slightly, in fact DH doesn't really have any close friends, so we're kinda stuck togehter all weekend. most of the time it's not so bad but every now and again i wanna break free

moondog · 05/03/2006 22:51

You really really don't want to know......

lazyanna · 06/03/2006 15:56

nothing whatsoever

kitegirl · 06/03/2006 16:03

not much on a normal week. watch a lot of telly and cook. weekends, might go out to a local restaurant if we can be organised enough to get a babysitter. or some friends might feed us. occasionally go to gigs (Brixton Academy). if weather permits, drive to Camber or Southend to go kitesurfing. lots of walks in the park with ds and labrador.

CountessDracula · 06/03/2006 16:22

don't tend to go out much as a couple only because he's either working/i'm working or we can't get a sitter so he goes out once or twice a w eek to football or darts and I go out now and again with my friends.

He spends a lot of time on the playstation which I get a grrrrr over

We both like chatting to each other and last thing at night curling up on the sofa together to watch either eastenders/ most haunted or two pints of lager.

We at least once or twice a week run a hot bath light some candles and both jump in for an hour and have a good long chat about anything and everything which is really nice as both our lives are pretty hectic.. we both work weekends and he works 3 weekday nights pus a sunday too and I work two nights a week plus we have his girls on a fri too.

In the summer we intend to start walking and I'd like to start visiting National Trust properties again (I used to be a member)

We have sex a lot too Blush

We do clash a lot as a couple he is difficult to live with and I am too which is why I think the time we spend together means so much too me
