Insecurity. Low self-esteem. Mild body dysmorphia. You're seeing a gorgeous woman & all she sees is a flabby stomach.

MissKeithLemon · 07/07/2012 14:30

I have a friend too who has recently had this done... I hope its not the same friend Tea Grin

Fwiw my friend maybe also didn't realise the full extent of the pain/recuperation period but I don't believe she did it for any of the above reasons given by Cogito Hmm
She had it done as a way to get rid of some unsightly stretch marks and too lose some belly flab that would never shift with diet and exercise alone. She too is also a gorgeous, confident woman and most importantly knows her own mind - I imagine she isn't the slightest bit interested in what anyone else thinks Grin

HairyGrotter · 07/07/2012 14:54

I'm not sure it's much of your business as to her reasons. Why do you NEED to understand? Can you not just accept her decision?

Being gorgeous isn't the be all and end all of life, the idea that women and men who are good looking have it all, and no other issues, is a bit daft.

Her reasons are her reasons, let her recover without questioning her motives for something SHE wanted done to HER body

Agree with cog

I have actually had this done Blush I came across as being confident but I wasn't- I lost 6n half stone and had had a lot of operations on my tummy for a sever bowel condition I have - the scar tissue had fused internally and I was in pain- and no matter what exercises I done I could not tone and tighten my tummy Sad

It was the best decision I have EVER made- web though my scar is dark my only regret is that I no longer have my c-section scar which was a reminder of my dd

So as gorgeous as your friend is op this may have helped her see what you see - which can only be a good thing Grin

People think I am slim because I have slim hips, I have a huge waist and loads of excess skin from my pregnancies. I really really struggle to get clothes to fit - size 12 waist, size 8-10 hips. I am saving to have a partial tummy tuck.

Yes it frightens me but my stomach absolutely revolts me I have a very strong core but I look pregnant Sad

03angels · 07/07/2012 21:59

random it was best decision I have made- my advise would be to research ur plastic surgeon as I have personally seen very diff results

Good luck Smile

RandomMess · 07/07/2012 22:06

I want to lose some weight first - about stone. Of course the irony is the more I lose the more out of proportion my tummy looks. Not to mention my gynae surgery that I had, was supposed to be 4 hour discharge - ended up as in patient for 3 days and unwell for 3 weeks, it has put me off slightly Grin

I was recommended someone East Grinstead way, well def do some proper research when I get around to it.

03angels · 07/07/2012 22:13

That's why I had mine I have endometriosis that spread to my bowel and polysytic ovaries Sad

I was the same and it does get you down, but try to keep the big picture in mind!!

Speak to ur doctor too as mine was part funded by Nhs (expects to get flamedBlush)

more · 07/07/2012 22:27

Surely if there was nothing to tuck the doctor would not have been able to tuck her tummy!?

03angels · 07/07/2012 22:31

more that made me lol! Sometimes I wish MN has a 'like' button Smile

Teansympathy · 08/07/2012 07:01

Well good luck to all you gals who go for it!, and thanks for giving me the bigger picture as it is something I have never come across with anyone a learning curve for me.

I wouldnt do it in a million years-and I have a horrendous overhang after 2 cs and am a typical apple shape.

My mum had it done years ago and very nearly died. She developed a huge blood clot and then a massive infection.

,My sister and I were left to care for our youngest sister-who was only 8 at the time-for a whole year as our mum lay on the sofa recovering.

Her vanity over her over hang and stretch marks nearly cost her her life-so no I dont understand why anyone would put themselves through such an operation in the name of having a flat stomach.

03angels · 08/07/2012 14:16

goris as I said mine was done for medical reasons not in vanity

I'm sorry to hear about your mums experience
