Sat on the settee. Crap on the telly. No contact from the dubious male I met through Internet dating. What is it all about? Is this single life at 51? If so it stinks.

I don't wan to wallow in self pity I want to be out there enjoying life. My divorce is due anytime. Life should be fun, but.......finding it tough

Like your philosophy arthriticfingers. Thinking of something good to do tomorrow with DS so that tonight is not followed by a boring, lonely Sunday

I'm here too. Even my parents have more of a life than me! Envy

Count me in, I'm past being sad about my situation ( married for 20 yrs, dumped by text and left penniless ) I spent so many nights crying and then I decided to take life by the balls and sort myself out. I started a law degree with the Open University, volunteered for Victim Support and took up photography as a hobby. I threw myself into working hard and I've been promoted twice in 8 months. My little one is sitting on the sofa with me and having a cuddle, life can still be extremely hard and I feel lonely from time to time but I have used this time to learn about myself, discover what I want to do and enjoy as a single person and not part of a couple. I know when the time is right I will meet someone and until that day I would prefer to be alone than be with someone for the sake of not feeling lonely. Use the time you are single to discover what you want, what you enjoy and do something amazing xx

Sorry, I forgot to add that I'm 41 yrs old so I'm in the youth of old age Smile

SmallCardiBigDrawers · 09/06/2012 23:59

I thought I was the only one. 50. Divorced. So tired of sitting here at night alone, but hear such horror stories about the single men of my age group that I'm not interested in dating. Not had sex for a long time. Lay in bed last night and just thought how much I want to be held tight, just once more. Not even about actual sex, just a tight hug and a snog would be good.

Feel like life is over in many ways. All I do is work and sit in every night on my own. It's very depressing and frustrating. I used to think I had lots to offer to the right guy.

Latecomer to the thread, similar story going on here...

likeatonneofbricks · 10/06/2012 00:13

SmallCardi, your post is so touching! I think you shouldn't go by horror stories alone, there are divorced/widowed men, and if you thought you had a lot to offer you still may well do! maybe join an old fashioned dating agency where they check the men out before introductions? Or - can you join in some hobby, like bridge/golf Grin/drawing ?

I adore being single, I adore living on my own..it's bliss perfect peaceful bliss.
No-ones life is over just because there's no partner...you are valid without a relationship!
There are no 'shoulds' or 'meant to be's' :)

SmallCardiBigDrawers · 10/06/2012 09:30

Victoria I didn't see your post last night, I must say you're very inspirational.

likeatonne thanks. I was feeling rather down last night, feel a bit better today but weekends are tough, not just Saturday night.

mercury that's the thing, some people really do love being single. I'm not one of them. I was with exH for around 25 years. When we first got divorced I enjoyed being single and doing my own thing, but I've now been single for 6 years. Had a fling here and there and realised about 3 years ago that's not for me, and now I'm really ready to be in a relationship again. It's an important part of life for me.

flatbellyfella · 10/06/2012 10:20

Smallcardie, it's the same situation for many single men, going everywhere on your own is no fun, even being in a crowd of friends you feel every other person there has someone to go home to.
It's a very hard road to travel ,looking for someone that you can put your trust into & start a loving relationship, especially for persons not in the first flush of youth, good luck in your search.

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 13:45

Nobody on this thread near Somerset, then ? < ahem > Grin

Taghain · 10/06/2012 13:57

Waves from Bristol :)

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 14:02

I was just about to match-make you with FBF then, Tag Grin

Taghain · 10/06/2012 14:08

No much point really, AF, since we're both blokes. Hmm
I do know a decent single 50-ish woman in Langport though - she's not my type but FBF might like her.

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 14:24

I know, Tag !

That's why I put my wand away Grin

flatbellyfella · 10/06/2012 18:55

BigGrin at AF. Thumbs up to Tag: Just got back from a solo walkabout. Keep that magic wand tucked under your arm nice and handy for a quick Abracadabra.!!

SmallCardiBigDrawers · 10/06/2012 19:07
