What are you coping mechanisms?

Same here. Ignore, ignore. Dd is 8 and over reacts when she's happy, sad, angry in fact any emotion. She's done this all her life and I think the best I can hope for is that she will learn to control her dramatic impulses.

Is it what children do or our children do more than others? I do ignore and tell her to go to her bedroom or stop but I'm just wondering if there is a way to avoid it starting at all because when it happens first thing in the morning really spoils the rest of the day for me tbh.

Some are genuinely more sensitive than others. I think you are right to show your dc that overly dramatic reactions can be hard to take.

Do you talk to her about it afterwards? It can also help if you acknowledge/ praise her when you notice a calmer reaction. She should then realise that she can still get attention when she is calm. Children like to know what is expected of them and giving her specific examples of how she could have handled it is a good idea.

Another coping mechanism is to just leave the room until she is calm and then try again. Repeat until you get a more measured response.
