Excuses

Anyone else constantly make excuses for other people's poor, disrespectful behaviour?

Your 'friend' routinely arrives ONE HOUR late for your outing without even apologizing for his/her lateness. You shrug it off, time after time.

Your friend is usually in a foul mood, slagging everybody off and when you ask how she is providing you with a long list of physical and emotional problems but never asking how YOU are. You just let them use you as a sort of free therapist to rant at.

How do you break out of this cycle?

you tell her that this is what she does and if she dosent start considering you sometimes you slowly drop this friend and make other friends

stop calling her. Stop asking how she is. Stop caring about her problems. Show her exactly the same regard she shows you.

I did this recently with a 'friend' of mine, and unsurprisingly, we've not been in touch for 6 months - if I am not in charge of calling/making arrangements etc she simply doesn't bother. So I guess that means 'we' are not friends, I was a friend to her, but she wasn't a friend to me. I was worried I would be dropping her, but reflecting on it - she dropped me without a backwards glance!

No great loss though is it really, when you think about it.

Is this the same 'friend' as the other thread?

She doesn't sound worth it to me. I agree with Cocoraisin, if you stop making the effort you'll soon see how little she made and probably won't see her again unless she wants something.

For a start, if someone is one hour late, you start doing it on time. In other words, don't wait more than a few minutes.
If they can't be bothered to turn up at the agreed time, they're telling you that they can't be bothered about you.

I used to do this, now I just can't be bothered, I've run out of puff. I now make sure I don't make effort when it's not mutual. Easier said than done but life is so much simpler :)

Stop seeing them. Who you spend your time with has a massive effect on you. If they make you feel shit, cut your ties, life is too short.
