Please talk me through separation when financially dependent on DH

I fell out of love with DH ages ago (probably about 6 years, but first admitted it to myself 18 months ago) and have been trying to wait it out and see if it comes back for the sake of our DC. It hasn't, and in the last few months he's started to notice.

For the last 10 years I have put my career low on the priority list and taken admin type part-time jobs to fit around the kids. Not blaming DH for this as it was my choice. However it means that he pays the rent (I pay all other bills). We never bought a house (one of the many issues we have)

I have no idea how I could support me and the DC alone. We don't have anyone that we could go and stay with.

Can someone talk me through it step-by-step, please?

You need to call the benefits office and tax credit office and see what you are entitled to.if you have part time work I assume, you'll get child tax credits/working tax credit.there are online benefits calculators to give you a rough guide-have a google.

Local Housing benefit office, ask for a appointment with housing officer to talk you through forms etc .

I'm going through the same thing,it's not easy. Are you looking at staying in the house and taking the rent on? If you are looking at moving out,you need at least £1000 under your belt (unless you can get on a council bonding scheme with an accepting landlord) for rent, deposit and letting agent fees. You can get crisis loans for a month rent in advance so that could help.

It's not a quick process,I'm still waiting on any form of payment (jsa as I'm unemployed) after nearly 4 weeks.

If you work part time you will get financial help like tax credits. You could also speak to your local council as you may be able to claim council tax and housing benefit. Good Luck

www.turn2us.org.uk/default.aspx will give you a good idea of what benefits you are entitled to.
